Construction Skills Tutor

Key Responsibilities
* To deliver Construction Skills training to learners in order to meet the requirements of NOCN or other awarding bodies for practical assessments (exams) and also for Health and Safety L1 (award) leading to a CSCS card test: this means preparing clear and concise schemes of work and lesson plans for all required exercises and other provision.
* Ensuring all required observations are photographed and reported then uploaded to Learntrek / Sharepoint daily to meet NOCN standards and IQA needs.
* Ensuring all learners and colleagues always wear appropriate and necessary PPE and are instructed in risk assessments and safety requirements.
* All practical learning sessions are prepared in advance with materials purchased well in advance, where necessary, and with all tools prepared, cleaned, sharpened, serviced, maintained prior to the start of each session.
* All workshop and classroom facilities are maintained and kept clean, safe, risk-free with a daily tidy up and with all power tools locked away securely every day.
* Ensuring all tools, particularly power tools are maintained, cleaned, serviced and/or replaced as necessary.
* To ensure any safeguarding events or observations are recorded and reported according to statutory guidelines.
* To work in partnership with New Meaning Foundation colleagues, particularly other construction tutors and teaching assistants to support the learners and learning programmes delivered at Waterbeach Barracks.
* To maintain all required administrative reporting that will enable 100% successful IQA and EQA audits, e.g. Individual Learning Plans, Attendance and Behaviour register, Observation records (filmed, photographed, written), 360-degree feedback forms, end-of-term assessments, parent / carer feedback.
Curriculum Design and Delivery - (60% of role approx.)
* To ensure practical and workbook exercises are designed and delivered to meet all awarding body requirements.
* Design of practical exercises for any given student or group of students.
* Supporting TAs to prepare, deliver and assess exercises as delegated, offering a flexible learning approach vs enforcing a one size fits all model; and allowing for flexible delivery but ensuring the final output will meet the awarding body specification.
* IQA/EQA – putting in place an IQA/EQA process that delivers all information up to date at any given point in the process.
Important Note
An Ofsted inspection could be held with only 1 day notice; hence all information must be consistently and constantly updated to be available should this occur.
Reporting - (30% of role approx.)
* Drafting and updating regularly (termly or as directed by your manager) Individual Learning Plans for new and repeat learners.
* Ensuring all relevant databases of attendance, observations, RAG / Behaviour, 360 feedback, etc are monitored and updated.
* Ensuring required delivery is planned and diarised by self and by TAs in support.
Safeguarding - (10% of role approx.)
* To reinforce and deliver safeguarding policies, procedure and practice through knowledge transfer, practical training, intelligence gathering and external agency relationship building.
* To keep detailed, accurate, secure written records of concerns and referrals and understand / educate colleagues.
* Safeguarding records should include a clear and comprehensive summary of the concern, details of how the concern was followed up and resolved, and note of any action taken, decisions reached and the outcome.
* Ensure safeguarding records are accessed only by those who need to see them.
* Where learners leave the setting ensure their safeguarding file is securely transferred to the new setting as soon as possible (separately from any other records to be shared) and that confirmation of receipt is received.
* Consider if it would be appropriate to share any additional information to help the new setting put in place the right support to safeguard learners and to help them thrive in the new setting.
* Work according to the Data Protection Act 2018 and the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). Where records are shared, ensure this happens in line with this legislation.
Annual Policy Review
* Ensure each member of staff has access to and understands relevant policies, risk assessments and procedures.
* Ensure construction-relevant policies are reviewed annually (as a minimum) and the procedures, communication of any updates and implementation are updated and reviewed at least annually.
* Ensure risk assessment and safeguarding policies are available publicly.
* Ensure parents/guardians and learners understand that referrals about suspected abuse or neglect may be made, and the role of New Meaning Foundation in this process.
* Help promote educational outcomes by sharing welfare, safeguarding and child protection issues of learners with colleagues and external stakeholders as needed.
Qualifications & Education and Training Requirements
* Construction industry knowledge, competence, and experience are a must and relevant teaching qualifications are preferred.
* IOSH Certificate preferred. Training will be given if you do not hold this qualification.

* ILPs completed for each learner at start and then every term completion
* Schemes of work and lesson plans drafted for all exercises for entire year during school holidays
* Curriculum guidance from NOCN interpreted and appropriate exercises designed to meet assessment requirements (practical and workbook)
