The West Midlands Growth Company (WMGC) is the region’s dedicated economic development vehicle, a separate market facing subsidiary of the West Midlands Mayoral Combined Authority. Our mission is to build and promote an ambitious region that attracts investment, businesses, events, and visitors—fuelling job creation and improving quality of life across the West Midlands. Over recent years WMGC has driven significant outcomes—including 6,500 jobs created, 80 overseas companies establishing themselves locally, and the successful landing of major business conferences and sports events—demonstrating our effectiveness in growing the regional economy. Backed by the key public sector, University and private sector partners, WMGC is now becoming a broader economic development vehicle for the region. We are adding innovative services to drive productivity and growth —including support for high potential businesses, growth capital attraction programme, and new focus on driving workforce development and future skills. The West Midlands Growth Hub is being launched in April 2026 as a new division of the West Midlands Growth Company. The new regional Strategic Account Management Service will coordinate relationships with 250 of the region’s strategic organisations across the WM Growth Company, WM Combined Authority and the Local Authorities in order to support, protect and unlock new investment in the region. Responsibility for each organisation is distributed between the various Chief Executives and Directors and 2 dedicated Strategic Account Managers in the WM Growth Hub. They are supported by a small team of SAM Research Coordinators and the SAM Support Executive. This expansion provides unique opportunities for a highly talented individual to join our team. The role This role is at the heart of the region’s economic growth agenda. As a Strategic Account Management (SAM) Support Executive, you will support and assist the Strategic Account Management (SAM) Team to manage a portfolio of around 250 strategic organisations in the region that have been identified as critical to driving productivity, innovation, and high-value job creation in the West Midlands. You will provide operational support to the allocated relationship managers for each account (Chief Executives and Directors and SAM Leads) and the SAM Research Coordinators as they create and execute plans to proactive manage our relationship across the WM Growth Company, WM Combined Authority, and 7 Local Authorities. You will assist the SAM Team in understanding the risks, opportunities and challenges facing each organisation, from which they can identify ways for the region to provide support in line with the West Midlands Growthplan. This could include gathering information of Local Authorities, WM Growth Company and Combined Authority teams regarding their interactions with these organisations. In addition, you will be helping to implement initiatives agreed with supporting the SAM Team in facilitating access to innovation through the region’s 6 research universities, skills and employment support, investment support, CSI related engagement with local communities, local authority services (such as planning), and regional policy makers. By building strong engagement, each strategic account’s operations in the region are strengthened, protecting existing and potentially unlocking more local investment and employment that benefit residents and other businesses across the West Midlands alike.
