Health Care Support Worker – Ward 3 RGH

This post is offered as a permanent position on our busy Respiratory Ward. It is an opportunity for a Healthcare Support Worker to join the team of experienced nurses at Ward 3 in Royal Glamorgan Hospital. We are looking for an HCSW with relevant skills, a caring attitude, and individuals who strive to provide high standards of care to all patients.
You will have the opportunity to develop your skills, under the supervision of qualified nurses, caring for patients who are acutely ill with medical conditions.
Experience within the specialty of Medicine is desirable but not essential. The post is rotational between day and night duty.
Main Duties of the Job
The main duties will include supporting health colleagues with delivering continuous health care packages in the community.
These tasks will involve direct and indirect care for the benefit of the patient/client in accordance with agreed protocols, and include basic care duties such as:
* Enabling patients to maintain personal hygiene through assistance with shower/bath, washing facilities access and use of toilet facilities; promoting independence where possible.
* Enabling patients to eat and drink, assisting where appropriate.
* Keeping up to date with mandatory training requirements.
* Maintaining a good standard of infection control procedures, in accordance with organisational policies.

Job Responsibilities
Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This does not mean it is essential; while the candidate does not need to have skills in Welsh, we’ll consider it an advantage when short‑listing and selecting candidates. It is not fluency, just speaking & listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.

Qualifications
* Good standard of general education including numeracy and literacy skills.
* To hold QCF Level 2 qualifications in Health & Social Care/Clinical Health Care.
Experience
* No previous experience is required.
* Works well both as an individual and as part of a team.
* The ability to speak Welsh.
