Overview
Triage assessment Clinical Nurse Specialists - Band 7. Join our Macmillan Cancer Nursing and Support Team to provide high quality care for patients referred to our USC colorectal pathway. The post holder will work with the Macmillan Colorectal Nurse Consultant, Triage Clinical nurse specialists, Cancer Nurse Specialists, Colorectal surgeons, Gastroenterologists, and multiprofessional team to provide a straight‑to‑test USC pathway.
Responsibilities
* Provide telephone assessments and undertake autonomous decision‑making following clinical protocols.
* Review results independently and manage patient onward referral.
* Support leadership, education, and development of nursing and clinical teams across the Trust.
* Develop and deliver the patient USC pathway, including specialist nursing advice and evidence‑based diagnostic protocols.
* Use advanced communication skills to support patients and ensure the multidisciplinary team has all relevant information.
* Apply specialist nursing knowledge to interpret investigations and determine next pathway stage, including discharge, referral back to GP, or referral to specialist services.
* Work autonomously, identify and maintain supportive networks, and provide supervision for complex caseloads.
* Manage junior nurse colleagues within the TAS, adhering to Trust HR processes, staff development, and allocating duties within the nursing team.
* Support the Trust in meeting UCS and RTT waiting time targets.
