A permanent Band 6 position is available in the Microbiology Department at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, based at Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists may be considered, with an expectation to work towards completing the IBMS Specialist Portfolio; Annex 21 applies if applicable.

The department operates two fully computerised laboratories (TECHNIDATA) with UKAS ISO 15189 accreditation, handling approximately 250,000 samples annually across all microbiology sub-specialties.
This role offers the opportunity to work within a high-quality, efficient Microbiology service, supporting a team of advanced and specialist biomedical scientists, associate practitioners, and healthcare science assistants.
Main duties of the job
The microbiology labs collaborate closely, sharing analytical platforms and IT systems, with a focus on continuous development and quality improvement. The department supports training and development for biomedical scientists, including placements for undergraduates and career progression for existing staff.
You will be an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and experienced registered Biomedical Scientist trained in Microbiology, joining a busy, friendly laboratory team.

Education and qualifications
* Honours degree in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent
* HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
* FIBMS/MSc or equivalent qualification
Experience
* Ability to act as a lone worker
* Highly developed technical and scientific skills
* Ability to evaluate new methods and technologies
* Evidence of CPD and knowledge updating
* Experience with Molecular Technologies
Skills, ability, and knowledge
* Supervision and training experience (MLA/BMS)
* Health & Safety training
* Experience with quality assurance schemes
* Awareness of quality management and audit procedures
* Ability to draft standard operating procedures
