Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland. Most people donât think too much about how clean water reaches their taps.  But Scottish Water does. In fact, itâs all we think about.  Weâre looking for an E&M Multiskilled craftsperson with a Mechanical bias to join our Engineering and Maintenance team in Oban to help keep our operational sites running smoothly.  This team installs, maintains and repair the critical infrastructure that deliver 1 billion litres of drinking water and remove 940 million litres of waste water from Scottish homes, businesses and industry. Every day.   What Youâll Do   Youâll be working with our wider E&M team to deliver a proactive service to make sure that the plant and equipment we use at our Water and Waste Water sites is safe and working effectively.  Youâll use your core mechanical craft skills, as well as your electrical knowledge to problem solve technical issues, thinking outside of the box to fault find and diagnose. Youâll be working in a time-sensitive environment, often in confined spaces.  Expect to be working on a range ofâ¯pumps, including progressive cavity, diaphragm and centrifugal, valves, including gate, non-return, air and butterfly, gearboxes, gears, bearings, seals, compressors, blowers, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, assembling and disassembling of equipment to component level, and various types of pipework.  Your safety is paramount. It is essential that you take all necessary steps to protect yourself and others, including risk assessments, choosing appropriate equipment, keep up to date with essential training and following safe working practices.  Youâll work closely with our office support team to plan and co-ordinate resources across the region, with the shared goal of delivering an effective and cost-efficient response to incidents, reactive or planned work, whilst looking for innovative ways to continually drive improvements.  What Youâll Need   Youâll have served a full apprenticeship and have an HNC or NC in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (or the equivalent experience)  This is a field-based role â and involves a fair amount of lone working. That means you need a full GB-issued Driving License (DVLA) to reach our sites. Most of them arenât accessible by public transport.  Youâll need to be happy to work on a standby rota (youâll be paid an additional standby retainer to compensate you for this)  In this role youâll be communicating with internal and external customers about work being carried outâ¯on site, giving progress reports and keeping people up to date. So itâs important that youâre confident, friendly, and pride yourself on providing a great service.  Youâll be comfortable using computer systems and on-line learning modules to get up to speed quickly.  And it goes without saying, youâll need an ironclad commitment to Health & Safety, to protect yourself, your colleagues and the public.   Looking out for you   While the work we do is important, we know itâs not the only thing that matters. Thatâs why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.  This role has some weekend working and standby requirements. But youâll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take time off to volunteer in your community.  When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.  For your future, thereâs our pension (the âknow-what-youâll-get-when-you-retireâ kind), and life assurance.  As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash â handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping. The not-so-small print ⯠  This role will be a Grade 6. If youâre new to Scottish Water, youâll join us on a starting salary of £36,410. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £46,990.  If youâre interested in this role â or know someone else who might be - weâll be accepting applications until midnight on 24 th March 2026.   Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. Screening is conducted on our behalf by a third party, and must be completed before your start date. Donât worry - weâll only start these checks once youâve accepted an offer. ⯠A few final things worth knowing⦠ Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If youâre interested in this job, but donât tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So donât rule yourself out!  Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters!). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. Weâre very used to making adjustments, so please donât be afraid to ask.  As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, itâs important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you donât already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months. Please note, Scottish Water takes the safety, health and wellbeing of our employees, colleagues and customers very seriously and as such you may be subject to Drug & Alcohol testing in line with our policy. Finally (finally!), candidates who havenât submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You wonât need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted. Weâre here to help. Ask us anything a t SWRecruitment@ScottishWater.co.uk Â
