Overview
Residential Support Worker – SEN Residential School/Children's Home in Lymington. Full-time - Temp to perm contract. Academics are recruiting on behalf of an Ofsted rated 'Outstanding' residential SEN school in between Lymington and Brockenhurst in the New Forest. All young people have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) with their primary special need being Autism and require support to access education, have difficulty initiating or limited social interactions and need support with organisation and problem solving, which can hamper independence. They may typically be working at or above age-related expectations or with moderate learning difficulties.
Responsibilities
* Help develop independence skills, pursue hobbies and introduce new hobbies or any activities the young person would like to try, understand the wider community and help build relationships and make friends.
* Be able to drive a standard mini bus as part of the role, or be willing to.
* Shifts include working weekends and bank holidays. The hours are preferably full-time (40 hours per week) with part-time options of 32 or 24 hours per week.
Contract, shifts and remuneration
* Shifts: Early 07:15 - 15:30; Late 15:00 - 22:30; Long day 07:15 - 22:15.
* Hourly rate: 13.68 per hour during the temporary contract; on permanent contract, hourly rates range from 13.12 to 14.88 per hour, dependent on experience.
* Once the role becomes permanent, you are required to complete a Level 3 RQF within two years of starting the role (supported by the school).
Qualifications and requirements
* Experience in care, residential or educational settings is preferable; open to candidates new to the sector who have an empathetic and driven nature with a passion for supporting children with special educational needs.
* Must be able to drive; driving a standard vehicle is required, and ability to drive a mini bus is part of the role or willingness to.
* Strong team player, confident, motivated and well organised; patience and commitment are essential, with a genuine desire to help others.
