Sele Medical Practice is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Salaried GP to join our friendly and supportive team. We are a well-established, patient-focused practice comprising five partners and one salaried GP.

We are offering flexibility in the number of sessions and start date for the right candidate.


Main duties of the job

In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake allthe normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working withinprimary care.

You will run your own clinics, managing acute, complex andlong-term health conditions and actioning administrative work associated withthis. You will also be expected to share on call cover (duty) as part of a rota with the team.

In addition, you will:

Action pathology results and general queries

Undertake home visits

Attend clinical and multidisciplinary meetings, includingsafeguarding meetings

Contribute to supervision of Doctors in Training and medicalstudents

Provide clinical support to the wider team during dutysessions

Work as part of the practice team to ensure continuousquality improvement, audit, the improvement of systems and care management

Practice operates from a purpose-built health centre

F2 Doctor Training Practice (2 GP trainers), Medical StudentTeaching Practice.

We are part of West Northumberland PCN and work with an ARRSteam with roles including a pharmacist, a First contact Physio, a carecoordinator, a paramedic and a Primary Care Mental Health Worker.

Part of Hadrian Primary Care Alliance (Federation), whichprovide out of hours services for the practice, as well as a covid vaccinationprogramme and MASTA travel clinic.

We are keen to support colleagues with development ofadditional clinical interests and would love to hear what skills or servicesyou would like to bring to the practice in the future.

Clinical Responsibilities:-

- In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, thepost-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of dutiesincluding surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visitingpatients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries,paperwork, reports and correspondence in a timely fashion.

- Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation topresenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health careworkers within the organisation.

- Assessing the health care needs of patients withundifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.

- Screening patients for disease risk factors and earlysigns of illness.

- In consultation with patients and in line with currentPractice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.

- Providing counselling and health education.

- Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseloadand referring to other care providers as appropriate.

- Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes toagreed standards.

- Collecting data for audit purposes and complying with QOFrequirements.

- Delivering enhanced services.

- Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeatprescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible).

- Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribingformulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate

- In general the post-holder will be expected to undertakeall the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working withinprimary care.

Other Responsibilities within the Organisation:-

- Awareness of and compliance with all relevant Practicepolicies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, healthand safety.

- A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensureevidence-based best practice.

- Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standardsetting within the organisation.

- Contributing to the development of computer-based patientrecords.

- Contributing to the summarising of patient records andRead-Coding patient data.

- Attending training and events organised by the Practice orother agencies, where appropriate.

- In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust uswith, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their healthand other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect thatstaff will respect their privacy and act appropriately.

- In the performance of the duties outlined in this JobDescription, the post-holder may have access to confidential informationrelating to patients and their carers, Practice staff and other healthcare workers.They may also have access to information relating to the Practice as a businessorganisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded asstrictly confidential.

- Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues,other healthcare workers or the business of the Practice may only be divulgedto authorised persons in accordance with the Practice policies and proceduresrelating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data.

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintainingtheir own and others health, safety and security as defined in the PracticeHealth & Safety Policy, to include:

- Using personal security systems within the workplaceaccording to Practice guidelines.

- Identifying the risks involved in work activities andundertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks.

- Making effective use of training to update knowledge andskills.

- Using appropriate infection control procedures,maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards.

- Participation in an annual individual performance review,including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/orprofessional development.

- Taking responsibility for own development, learning andperformance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who areundertaking similar work.

The post-holder will strive to maintain quality within thePractice, and will:

- Alert other team members to issues of quality and risk.

- Assess own performance and take accountability for ownactions, either directly or under supervision.

- Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflectingon own and team activities and making suggestions on ways to improve andenhance the teams performance.

Communication:-

The post-holder should recognise the importance of effectivecommunication within the team and will strive to:

- Communicate effectively with other team members.

- Communicate effectively with patients and carers.

- Recognise peoples needs for alternative methods ofcommunication and respond accordingly.

Contribution to the Implementation of Services:-

The post-holder will:

- Apply Practice policies, standards and guidance.

- Discuss with other members of the team how the policies,standards and guidelines will affect own work.

- Participate in audit where appropriate


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Fully Qualified GP eligible to work in General Practice in the NHS
* MBBS or equivalent medical degree MCGRP
* Clear DBS report
* GMC full registration
* Member of defence union (MPS/MDU)
* Currently on a performers list
* Full driving licence


Experience

* Experience working in general practice/primary care environment
* Experience of working to achieve standards within the Quality and Outcome Framework (QOF)
* Understand the health and social needs of a local practice patient population
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with patients and other healthcare professionals
