Our 999 Emergency Call Handlers (Emergency Medical Advisors) are people just like you, from diverse backgrounds. They share a common set of qualities – care, empathy, and strong communication skills – and are the first point of contact for patients calling 999.
Training & Development
* 9 weeks full‑time training, including 3 weeks of classroom instruction and 6 weeks of on‑the‑job mentoring.
* Training is mandatory and applies to both full‑time and part‑time applicants to obtain the Pathways licence.
* Role is fully office‑based at NHS 111/999 contact centres in Medway, Kent or Crawley, West Sussex.
* Applicants must live within an approximate 45–60 minute commuting distance.
Work Pattern
* 24/7 shift patterns covering early, late, night and weekend shifts on a fixed rota.
* Shift patterns are designed to provide safe and consistent service for patients.
* Request to work nights only will be considered if the role is suitable.
Salary & Benefits
* Salary band £25,760 – £27,476 (around £13.17 per hour) with unsocial hours allowance.
* Unsocial hours bonus – approximately £17.78 per hour between 8pm and 6am Monday‑Friday and all‑day Saturday; approximately £22.26 per hour on Sundays and public holidays.
