Overview
The Islamic College of Brisbane is seeking a dedicated Teacher-Librarian to deliver a comprehensive range of services to teachers, students, and the wider school community. The position supports the development of technology and information literacy skills, fosters independent and lifelong learning, and contributes to creating a supportive learning environment. In addition, the role includes providing supervision and ensuring duty of care within the ICB Library during the school day. This is a full-time position located at our Karawatha campus. Availability during school hours and term time is essential.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide a safe, supportive learning environment for all students.
* Involvement in the delivery of information and digital literacy.
* Providing current high-quality literature to support curriculum leaders with planning.
* Work with classes across the Primary years, particularly the explicit teaching of digital literacy and research skills.
* Curriculum support to teachers P-12 through the provision of resources, both print and digital.
* Plan and implement events such as Book Week, Book Fairs, Premiers Reading Challenge, Book club.
* Be informed and proactive regarding curriculum standards and developments, particularly ACARA.
* Expose students to a range of genres in both print and digital formats.
* Develop strategies to foster a love of reading for leisure.
* Guide students in their reading choice.
* Collaborate with teachers to develop literature-based reading programs.
Selection Criteria
* Ideally hold ALIA-accredited academic qualifications in teacher librarianship, for example, a Master of Education (Teacher Librarianship)
* Current QCT registration or Blue Card (Working with Children Check) or willingness to obtain
* First Aid Certificate, and Training in cataloguing standards and Oliver LMS are desirable
* Previous work in a school or public library (Primary and Secondary preferred)
* Experience in teaching information and digital literacy skills across all primary classes.
* Experience in cataloguing, acquisitions, circulation, and resources management (English and Arabic)
* Knowledge of library systems and cataloguing standards (AACR2, RDA, DDC. LCSH. SCIS)
* Experience in student supervision, customer service, and library events (Book Week, Book Fair, literacy activities)
* Experience with troubleshooting library technology and developing learning support materials
* Strong ICT skills, including Oliver LMS, TASS, and Microsoft Office
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
* Ability to supervise and engage students in a positive learning environment
* Awareness of cultural appropriateness in resource selection, especially in an Islamic context.
