Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for 2 full time GP Receptionists to join our friendly, innovative, and forward-thinking team at East Durham Medical Group. Usual opening hours for the Practice are 8am-8pm. Successful applicants will be required to work two 8am starts and one 8pm finish. Evening and weekend working will be required on an ad hoc rota basis. Applicants will be required to cover holiday and sickness when needed. The ideal candidate will be well motivated and enthusiastic and have excellent customer service, communication, and problem‑solving skills. Previous NHS reception experience would be an advantage as well as knowledge of the SystmOne clinical system.

Job Description
Main duties of the job:
* Greet patients and visitors to the practice.
* Book in, amend and cancel patient appointments inline with practice appointment procedures ensuring optimum efficiency of the appointment system.
* Ensure that patients are effectively sign‑posted into appropriate slots as per protocol and clinician specification.
* Answer incoming telephone calls, ensuring calls are documented and redirected accordingly.
* Signpost all requests appropriately and accurately in a time‑managed manner.
* Receive and accurately record requests for home visits, assessing urgency in accordance with the practices protocols.
* Respond and/or redirect all patient and visitor requests accordingly.
* Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and temporary residents, ensuring procedures are completed.
* Register new patients onto the computer system.
* Advise patients of relevant charges for private services, accept payment and issue receipts.
* Ensure correspondence, reports, results etc. are filed electronically in the correct patient record.
* Ensure reception and waiting areas are kept neat and tidy.
* Restock information leaflets/stationery and order as appropriate.
* Undertake administration tasks as allocated on rota organised by Senior Receptionist.
* Check emails on a daily basis.
* Regularly check messages/notifications on SystmOne to ensure everything has been actioned.
* Action start and end‑of‑day procedures as directed by Senior Receptionist.
* Work closely with GPs, nursing and office staff to ensure the smooth running of the practice, reporting any problems.
* Maintain up‑to‑date computerised and manual filing systems (i.e. patient notes).
* Amalgamate new patient records.
* Check all consulting rooms daily for scripts and any shredding waste.
