The Business Intelligence Analyst will deliver and maintain BI solutions to support the Trust’s information agenda, producing routine and ad‑hoc reports, analysing data and providing guidance on performance measures and statistics.
Responsibilities
* Deliver and maintain Business Intelligence (BI) solutions to support the Trust information agenda, delivering key information, intelligence and data metrics.
* Interrogate the various information systems to produce routine and ad‑hoc reports for internal and external stakeholders.
* Submit datasets to national collections as required.
* Analyse data, interpret and report on results.
* Ensure timely and accurate production of key performance indicators and other contractual data requirements.
* Provide advice and guidance on the use of performance measures, data and statistics.
* Contribute to working groups developing information capability to support effective decision‑making.
* Provide complex specialist statistical analysis of service‑use data and quality metrics to identify trends, aberrations and problems in data collection and presentation.
* Develop, implement and maintain business intelligence solutions using relevant software, conforming to NHS standards, for complex information reports.
* Coordinate and solicit input from business and operational stakeholders to meet specifications.
* Lead on the development of reporting to internal stakeholders to support divisional oversight and decision‑making.
* Encourage the use of business intelligence/information to support business planning.
* Contribute to the delivery of the Trust Strategies and action plans.
* Collaborate closely with other Information Management areas to attain strategic goals.
* Provide support and development to junior staff, including technical training.
* Develop and maintain skills in SQL, database administration and highly complex data analysis.
* Design highly complex data sets, BI solutions and algorithms, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.
* Monitor and maintain implementation of the divisional data quality improvement plan.
* Provide support and expertise for informatics systems related to the Electronic Patient Record (EPR).
* Propose changes to divisional and service informatics practice and implement policies.
* Plan a local programme of work to progress the business plan and adapt to changing circumstances and user requirements.
* Provide submissions and returns to local and national bodies.
* Ensure staff competence to maximise system functionality and enhance data quality/reporting.
* Be responsive to service‑user requests for assistance.
* Perform other duties as may be assigned commensurate with the post/band.
Qualifications
Essential criteria:
* Good level of general education
* Relevant degree or equivalent (Information or related area)
* Significant experience in Informatics in a large/complex organisation
* Advanced knowledge of MS Excel
* Experience of writing and maintaining SQL scripts
* Relevant experience of business intelligence software
* Ability to learn and apply programming skills
* Demonstrable skills in business intelligence software
* Excellent numeracy and statistical methods skills
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Excellent analytical skills
* Flexible approach to working hours
* Ability to work as part of a team
Desirable criteria:
* Postgraduate diploma or equivalent in Information or related area
* ECDL or equivalent
* Evidence of professional and/or personal development
* Experience of NHS information systems and use of information across the NHS (Acute and/or Community)
* Knowledge of relational database theory
* Knowledge of Acute Hospital information systems (e.g., PAS)
* Knowledge of Community Services information systems (e.g., EMIS Web Community)
* Knowledge of statistical publication, monitoring and metrics
* Ability to read, comprehend and advise on national policy and guidance
* Project Management Skills
