An exceptional opportunity to lead one of London’s most significant station refurbishment programmes, valued at up to £80 million. As Project Director, you will take strategic ownership of the project, overseeing the entire lifecycle from RIBA Stage 2 through to completion. This is a high-profile appointment within a prestigious infrastructure programme that will redefine passenger experience and capacity at one of the capital’s most iconic stations.
About the Role
Reporting to the client’s executive leadership, the Project Director will provide authoritative leadership and strategic direction across all facets of project delivery. You will be accountable for design integration, stakeholder alignment, commercial performance, and programme governance. The role requires an experienced leader adept at operating in complex, live public environments and ensuring delivery to the highest safety, quality, and service standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership: Drive the overarching programme vision, ensuring alignment with client goals, regulatory frameworks, and long-term station operational strategy.
2. Programme Oversight: Lead the client-side delivery team, including Project Managers, Consultants, and Technical Advisors, maintaining control over quality, cost, and schedule.
3. Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the principal point of contact for senior stakeholders, including government agencies, transport authorities, and community representatives.
4. Commercial & Contractual Management: Oversee procurement strategies, contract administration, and value engineering across all phases.
5. Risk & Governance: Chair programme boards, steer project assurance functions, and ensure compliance with risk and governance protocols.
6. Leadership & Culture: Foster a high-performance culture across multi-disciplinary teams, promoting collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Ideal Candidate Profile
7. Demonstrable experience delivering complex capital infrastructure projects (ideally within Rail, Aviation, or large-scale public realm developments).
8. Proven track record in a senior leadership capacity (Project Director / Programme Director)
9. Strong understanding of RIBA design stages and managing multidisciplinary teams across a project lifecycle.
10. Extensive experience working within live operational environments where safety, continuity, and public experience are paramount.
11. Degree-qualified in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; chartership (e.g., ICE, CIOB, RICS) is desirable.
