Job Description

As part of the Net Zero agenda, networks play a crucial role in delivering renewable energy. Our team is delivering projects across the UK in the Transmission and Distribution sectors, supporting other energy and infrastructure sectors. We are expanding our Electrical Engineering team and are recruiting a Principal Engineer.
Your Purpose
You will work in a senior role within our Electrical Engineering teams, based in Epsom, Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow, or remotely. Building strong relationships, working with clients, understanding their needs, and converting opportunities into successful workstreams are key aspects of your role.
Your responsibilities include:
* Providing technical leadership on FEED and detailed design for clients like National Grid and SSEN-Transmission.
* Ensuring quality assurance and delivery of FEED, detailed design, and bids.
* Acting as BP141 (or equivalent) assurance engineer when required.
* Reviewing HV plant aspects, including layouts, maintenance access, earthing, mechanical interlocking, busbar calculations, and technical specifications.
* Coordinating with back-office engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers, managing tender packages and technical offers.
* Attending and chairing design and hazard review meetings, site visits, FAT, and SAT.
* Being customer-focused, identifying client needs, and supporting business development.
Qualifications
What you can bring:
* A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with experience in UK Substations Design.
* Chartered Engineer status through IET or working towards it.
Essential Criteria
* Leadership experience in a similar environment.
* Strong understanding of engineering projects through asset lifecycles.
* Proven track record in leading teams in EHV substation projects.
* Experience working for transmission system owners/operators or design consultancies.
* BP141 / TP141 HV Substation qualification or equivalent, or ability to obtain it.
* Effective communication with stakeholders, client relationship management, coaching, and flexibility to travel.
