Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
* Long term supply: September to December
* Location: Rural Hassocks
* Job Type: Full-time Mon - Fri 8.30am to 4.15pm
* Payrate: £120 to £130 per hour depending on experience and qualifications
* Job split: Based within the Performing Arts Department 40% of the time, 60% within various departments and classes.
Provide long term supply support working directly with children and young people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) within a secondary school setting. This role is crucial in providing a nurturing and effective learning environment, aimed at enhancing the autonomy, independence, personal development, and employability of all students.
Day-to-day of the role:
* Assist the teacher with curriculum delivery and support individual students or groups to achieve set targets.
* Engage in the planning, organisation, and delivery of educational and work-related experiences for students.
* Share responsibility for the physical care of students and contribute to maintaining a safe learning environment.
* Maintain accurate records of student achievement and progress.
* Evaluate your practice and engage in professional development.
* Manage classroom resources, emphasising the display and presentation of students’ work.
* Work creatively and flexibly with students with special educational needs to promote their development.
* Follow instructions and adhere to policy guidelines in all areas of work.
* Communicate clearly with staff, students, parents, the local community, and outside agencies.
* Contribute to the assessment, planning, and monitoring of individual learning programmes.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Knowledge of the needs of students with ASD and the National Curriculum.
* Experience in planning and contributing to curriculum delivery.
* Ability to work under direction and collaboratively with teaching staff.
* Competence in continuous assessment and monitoring of student progress.
* Strong communication skills for liaising with parents and the wider community.
* Commitment to personal professional development.
* Experience in managing and developing staff and resources.
* Strategic leadership skills to contribute to service development.
Experience and Qualifications:
* GCSE grade A-C (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
* Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support in Teaching & Learning or equivalent qualification
* Experience working with children and young people, especially those with special educational needs.
* Knowledge of Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly ASD.
* Understanding of child protection, safeguarding, anti-discrimination, disability rights, and equal opportunities practices.
* Awareness of key aspects of Health and Safety at work.
* A clean current driving licence is desirable.
