The RNBT – Clinical Services Lead (Registered Nurse)

Location: Portsmouth
Salary: £50,600 plus comprehensive benefits package
Job type: Permanent 36 hours

Admiral Jellicoe House is a purpose-built 66 bed care home for veterans and spouses of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines in Portsmouth which opened in June 2022. Our residents and staff enjoy a varied yet familiar way of life to encourage independence and give each day meaning and purpose. The home has a ‘family run’ feel and we have carefully created a supportive, friendly and close knit team, making it a unique and very special place to work.

The RNBT exists to support Royal Navy Ratings and Royal Marines Other Ranks, both serving and served, and their loved ones, through life’s challenges. Established in 1922 under Royal Charter, The Trust continues to provide a lifeline of support: from financial assistance and training opportunities to wellbeing guidance and signposting, as well as accommodation at our Care Homes and Almshouse.

Working with Meaningful Care Matters we have started to implement the Butterfly approach of care, where we are one family at Admiral Jellicoe House.

The Job Role

The Clinical Services Lead is responsible for leading, managing, and delivering safe, effective, and high-quality person-centred care within the home. As the most senior clinician, the post holder ensures robust clinical leadership, consistent standards of care, and professional supervision of all nursing and care staff.

This role combines hands-on clinical practice with accountability for care standards, regulatory compliance, and continuous quality improvement. The post holder works closely with the Home Manager to ensure the delivery of person-centred care and a culture of professional excellence across all areas of the home.

The successful candidate will be required to join the on-call roster and be flexible to work across a 7-day pattern when required.

This role joins the home leadership team to support the Deputy Manager and Registered Manager.

Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Provide strong, professional leadership and strategic direction in all aspects of clinical and care quality.
  • Ensure rigorous compliance with all relevant legislation, regulatory standards (including CQC, NICE, and safeguarding frameworks), and professional codes of practice.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of care policies.
  • Consistently role model clinical excellence through professional conduct and capability, maintaining a visible, hands-on presence in practice.
  • Provide on-call and emergency cover in accordance with the rota agreed with the Home Manager.
  • Lead, manage, and be accountable for internal audits, inspections, and quality reviews.
  • Be responsible for managing and coordinating wound care provision for all residents.
  • Support recruitment activities, including campaign participation, candidate interviews, and selection processes, to maintain safe staffing levels and meet resident needs.
  • Role model the highest standards of care by actively engaging in clinical work where necessary to set clear expectations for staff.
  • Maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive understanding of Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) and the Mental Capacity Act, ensuring compliance in practice.

The Person

This role would suit someone who is naturally dependable, compassionate and trustworthy. They should be able to empathise with the needs of the residents, have patience and understanding and above all be kind and caring.

In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a generous suite of benefits to our employees including:

  • 6 weeks per annum pro-rata holiday
