We’re hiring a Field Service Engineer to support advanced lab automation systems across the UK and Europe. This role suits someone who thrives in customer-facing environments, enjoys travel, and has a knack for diagnosing and fixing complex electromechanical systems — especially within biotech or life sciences settings. Key Responsibilities Install, calibrate, and maintain robotic and automated lab equipment at customer sites Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and software-related issues Deliver technical support and training to end users Collaborate with software engineers and internal teams to deploy updates and upgrades Document service visits, manage spare parts inventory, and contribute to technical knowledge base Build strong relationships with clients through proactive communication and support Mentor junior engineers and contribute to service excellence initiatives Support pre-sales activities including technical demonstrations and client consultations Provide feedback to R&D and product teams to improve system performance and reliability Ensure compliance with health & safety and regulatory standards during installations and service visits Perform preventive and breakdown maintenance across 2–3 client sites per week Working Hours & Travel Standard hours: Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm Remote-based contract with travel across Cambridgeshire and nearby regions Occasional international travel may be required for senior roles What We’re Looking For HNC, apprenticeship, or degree in mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical engineering Ideally 2 years’ experience in field service, technical support, or lab automation (5 years for senior level) Background in biotech, life sciences, or lab instrumentation preferred Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently Excellent communication skills — both technical and customer-facing Valid UK driver’s license Desirable Experience Robotics, lab instrumentation, or industrial automation HVAC, firmware, or communication protocols (TCP/IP, RS232) Experience with PLC systems, motion control, or vision systems Familiarity with GxP environments and documentation standards Multilingual skills (European languages) are a plus Why Apply Work with cutting-edge technology in life sciences and automation Full training provided with ongoing technical development Join a team that values technical excellence, customer success, and continuous learning Competitive salary, travel perks, and career development opportunities Be part of a growing international service team with a strong reputation in lab automation Opportunity to shape the future of robotics in diagnostics, pharma, and biotech
