Senior Electrical Engineer for the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team.

This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment. Experience in control systems design, SCADA and telemetry systems is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Working within the Standards, Asset Management and Engineering Directorate, you will influence how we deliver our services into the future. As part of our Technical Authority you will provide technical engineering leadership and support to the whole organisation to meet our objectives of safe, reliable, sustainable assets and net‑zero carbon commitments.

You will be part of a team that manages, develops and maintains our electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules, for high‑ and low‑voltage power systems and control systems within assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures and monitoring sites.

Your duties include:

* Developing, delivering and maintaining competency and skills guidance for all employees managing or carrying out work on our electrical systems and equipment.
* Holding a national incident response role during normal or out‑of‑hours periods.

Qualifications & Experience

* Good working knowledge of the Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* Understanding of control systems, including the application of IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry/SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience in developing and delivering safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
* Experience testing and isolating high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
* Strong understanding of a risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance philosophies and implementation, including the application of Failure Mode Effects Analysis, reliability systems and processes.
* Drafting and publishing electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work‑management, team‑working and communication skills.

Benefits & Working Arrangements

This is a hybrid role with a base location near to your home. Some travel and overnights may be required. You will have an incident management objective in your development plan and we will support you to find a role to suit your needs and circumstances. Appropriate training will be provided.

We welcome applications from all, regardless of race, sex, religion, nationality, sexual orientation, age, disability, gender identity or marital status.
