Job Title: SEN/SEMH Outreach Support Coach

Location: Halifax
Working Pattern: Monday-Friday, Full Time - Term Time Only
Reports to: SEND SEMH Lead Teacher

Purpose of the Role

The SEND Inclusion Support Coach will support strengthening inclusive practice for children and young people (CYP) with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), with a specialist focus on Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This role will:

Promote and sustain inclusive practice so that CYP with SEND can access and thrive within their local mainstream schools and educational settings.

Build capacity within settings to ensure SEND needs are identified, assessed, and responded to early.

Enable schools to deliver a high-quality graduated response to SEND support (assess-plan-do-review).

Ensure a continuum of provision across Calderdale so CYP receive the right support at the right time.

Uphold legal responsibilities under equalities and SEND legislation, ensuring CYP are treated fairly and without discrimination.

Key Responsibilities

Casework & Monitoring
Provide flexible, ongoing casework support to schools and settings, ensuring SEND recommendations are implemented, embedded, and reviewed effectively.

Relationship Building
Develop, sustain, and strengthen collaborative partnerships with schools, settings, and professionals to build long-term capacity for inclusion.

Direct Engagement with CYP and Families
Work directly with individual CYP and their families to understand their needs and support personalised strategies.

Specialism - SEMH
Act as a specialist in SEMH, offering:

Professional assessments

Practical strategies

Advice, training, and modelling for staff in schools and educational settings

Intervention Delivery
Plan and deliver targeted interventions for individuals or small groups, demonstrating effective practice to school-based colleagues.

Troubleshooting & Support
Work with schools and settings to problem-solve barriers affecting SEND provision or implementation of professional recommendations.

Reports & Data
Provide progress information and produce professional reports where required.

Training & Professional Development

Participate in supervision, training, and CPD

Keep informed of current SEND/SEMH legislation, practice, and research

Maintain professional standards relevant to qualifications or registrations

Statutory SEND Processes
Contribute to Education, Health & Care (EHC) needs assessments, planning, and reviews as required by SEND Regulations (2014).

Collaboration & Partnership
Work effectively with internal SEND teams, other professionals, families, and CYP to ensure coordinated support.

Signposting
Direct CYP, families, and settings to additional assessment or support services when appropriate.

Resource & Strategy Development
Contribute to the delivery of training programmes, resources, and wider SEND/SEMH strategy across the borough.

Data & Information Systems
Ensure accurate recording and maintenance of all information required within the role.

Professional Advocacy
Promote high aspirations for CYP with SEND, act professionally at all times, and represent the Council positively.

Person Specification

Essential:

Evidence of experience working with CYP with SEND, particularly SEMH needs.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport.

Experience supporting behaviour, emotional regulation, or inclusion with individuals or groups.

Ability to work independently, manage a caseload, and prioritise workload effectively.

Competence in advising and modelling best practice for school staff.

Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle (travel across Halifax/Calderdale required).

Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with families, schools, and wider services.

Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Desirable:

Relevant qualifications in teaching, education, psychology, youth work, SEND, or SEMH.

Experience delivering training or capacity-building programmes in educational settings.

Knowledge of SEND Code of Practice and graduated approach models.

Experience of multi-agency working.

Working Arrangements

Smarter Working Profile: Hybrid - a balance of working from home, school visits, and a designated council workplace as required.

Flexibility:
Willingness to work flexibly to attend meetings, provide training, or fulfil responsibilities that may occasionally fall outside core school hours.
