Overview
An exciting opportunity to recruit an enthusiastic Consultant to join the Acute Medicine Department at University Hospitals of Derby & Burton NHS Foundation Trust. The post will be based at Queens Hospital, Burton. The Acute Medicine Business Unit offers high quality clinical care within flexible and sustainable job plan structures, with encouragement of part-time working or job plans split with other specialties. The Trust values integrating services with the wider urgent care network to ensure patients receive the best care at the right time and in the right place.
Our aim is to provide senior clinical decisions on patient care from arrival to discharge, with minimal delays. We maintain a strong focus on excellent patient care and have consistently performed highly in SAMs audits over the past three years. Further details of roles and responsibilities while fulfilling AMU shifts, standard operating procedures for AMU handover, and unit operational standards will be reviewed during induction with the team for the successful candidate.
Responsibilities
* Management of patients on the Medical Admissions Unit and Medical Same Day Emergency Care Unit at University Hospitals of Derby & Burton NHS Foundation Trust, including patients referred by their GP, the Emergency Department or by other specialties. Provide Acute Medicine in-reach to adult patients in the Emergency Department.
* Responsibility for personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in their job plan, allowing for all proper delegation to, and training of staff.
* Provision of cover for Consultant colleagues during reasonable periods of leave including care of patients and supervision of junior doctors and wherever possible any fixed commitments.
* These are exciting times to join the Acute Medicine business unit at Queens hospital Burton UHDB. We are planning to expand and extend our services, which include AMU, SSU, SDEC and Virtual Ward.
* Sub-specialty interest in any other medical specialty can be accommodated. Candidates can be accommodated for up to 2 PAs to pursue a specialty of their interest. Interest in improving SDEC services and virtual ward, such as Frailty services, will be encouraged, and successful candidates will be given an extra PA to improve these services.
