Band 6 Infection Prevention control Audit and Surveillance Nurse
The Infection Prevention and Control Audit and Surveillance Nurse is a key member of the Infection prevention and Control Team (IPCT). The post holder plays a key role in supporting the Trust's commitment to preventing and reducing healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs) and achieving zero tolerance to avoidable infections.
This post is open to nurses registered with the NMC and holding a teaching and assessing certificate. You should have a minimum of two years' experience in acute surgical nursing, be able to demonstrate an interest in IPC including Surgical Site Surveillance (SSS) and have an understanding of improvement projects and a knowledge of associated working partnerships/services that have a direct impact on IPC.
The role will be primarily based at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals, with occasional requirements to work at other Trust sites when IPC services are needed.
You will need to have good electronic data management skills and be computer literate. You must be able to role model, work clinically with colleagues at ward/clinic level inspiring and encouraging safe patient care related to reducing infection risks. Be able to demonstrate your expertise and contribution you can make to maintaining and improving trust infection rates and leading the trust forward as a centre of world class care.

Main duties of the job
* Oversee the collection of SSI data for relevant categories as determined by the Division and/or the Infection Prevention and Control Team
* Oversee (and participate as needed) efficient and accurate data entry
* Review results and gain consensus of results prior to reporting to UKHSA
* Work with the division to deliver a quarterly case learning review panel
* Facilitate the ongoing mandatory SSI programme for the Trust, providing data for submission to the Health Protection Team at UKHSA for national benchmarking with other trusts
* Co‑ordinate the collection of data and ensure accurate reporting
* Collaborate with Public Health Laboratory Service in data analysis
* Be responsible for entering data accurately onto the database
* In conjunction with the IPCT, identify possible risks of infection and investigate all outbreaks of infection
* Feed back data to clinical teams in conjunction with other IPCT members
* The post holder will work collaboratively across care groups and autonomously lead on these programmes to ensure robust data is collected and reported, ensuring the findings are acted upon to reduce healthcare associated infections
* Post holder to access case notes and extract information for the completion of accurate reporting to all management levels and to fully participate and manage where needed the completion of RCA investigations relevant to the post
Person Specification
Education & Professional Qualifications
* Appropriate teaching certificate or teaching experience
* Agreement to undertake SSI training at UKHSA
* Clinical Registered Nurse with relevant surgical experience
* Experience of MS Office systems including Excel and Trust Electronic Patient Records
Experience
* Experience at Band 5/6 caring for acute surgical nursing at ward level for a minimum of two years
* Experience of surgical nursing and management of wounds
* Experience in teaching multidisciplinary staff
* Experience of working within a multi‑disciplinary workforce
* Knowledge of surgical site infections and surveillance
* Experience in infection control
* Experience of national infection surveillance programmes, including data collection
* Experience of change management and quality improvement cycles
Skills and Aptitudes
* Willingness to travel across multiple sites

* Understanding of clinical risk, clinical governance and national benchmarks
* To liaise with Consultant Surgeons and the MDT regarding wound issues

* Working knowledge of IT systems such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
