The ADHD Specialist Independent Prescriber plays a critical role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care within Psychiatry UK’s ADHD service. Reporting into the Titration Team Lead and working closely with Consultant Psychiatrists, this position is responsible for the treatment and ongoing management of adults with ADHD, including the independent or supplementary prescribing of ADHD medications in line with national guidelines and Psychiatry UK’s clinical policies. The ADHS Specialist Independent Prescribers exercise autonomous clinical judgment to initiate, titrate and monitor treatment efficacy, manage risk, and ensure safe and effective titration, while maintaining professional and ethical standards of care. Through collaborative, multidisciplinary working, they contribute to continuous service development, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives, supporting Psychiatry UK’s commitment to innovation and excellence in mental health care. This is a home-based role (applicants must reside in the UK), though occasional travel may be required for face-to-face meetings at various locations within the UK. As an A DHD Specialist Independent Prescriber, you will: · Provide safe, effective, and evidence-based prescribing for adult ADHD patients in line with NICE guidelines, Psychiatry UK clinical policies, and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) Prescribing Framework. · Manage a defined caseload of patients during the titration and ongoing treatment phases, ensuring timely review of treatment effectiveness, side effects, and adherence. · Communicate with patients through Psychiatry UK’s secure portal, offering clear, supportive, and clinically appropriate responses to medication-related queries. · Complete End of Titration Reviews (EOTRs) and conduct annual medication reviews in a timely and thorough manner, ensuring continuity and quality of care. · Exercise independent or supplementary prescribing rights within scope of practice, recognising limitations and seeking clinical advice when necessary. · Collaborate closely with Consultant Psychiatrists and the wider ADHD service team to ensure coordinated, patient-centred care. · Undertake regular risk assessments and review safeguarding concerns, escalating appropriately in line with organisational policy. · Maintain accurate, detailed, and confidential clinical records using Psychiatry UK’s digital systems in accordance with professional and legal standards. · Participate in audits, quality improvement activities, and the review of prescribing practices to support clinical governance and service development. · Engage in regular clinical supervision and team learning to maintain high standards of clinical decision-making. · Contribute to the ongoing refinement of Psychiatry UK’s prescribing pathways, titration protocols, and service delivery processes. · Remain up to date with relevant legislation, prescribing guidance, and Psychiatry UK policies, with a commitment to continuous professional development. To succeed as an ADHD Specialist Independent Prescriber, you will have: Sound clinical experience in the initiation, titration, and management of ADHD in adults. You will demonstrate a strong patient-centred approach, showing empathy, professionalism, and the ability to build rapport with patients and colleagues. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, with the capacity to engage effectively both remotely and in writing, while collaborating seamlessly within multidisciplinary or multi-agency teams. You will be familiar with ADHD rating scales, validated screening, and monitoring tools, and have a solid awareness of safeguarding procedures, particularly in the context of remote or digital healthcare delivery. A sound understanding of legislation, professional standards, and current developments in ADHD service provision and prescribing practice is required. You will be able to work autonomously, managing an independent caseload efficiently and responsibly, supported by advanced IT and digital literacy skills necessary for confident use of digital health platforms. Essential Qualifications and Experience: Registered Nurses: · First-level registered Mental Health nurse (RMN) or · First-level registered nurse (Adult Nurse/Children’s Nurse/Learning Disabilities Nurse) (with one year post qualification Secondary Mental Health service experience or further Mental Health qualification). · Must have Independent & Supplementary Non-Medical Prescribing (V300) qualification with 1-year post-prescribing qualification experience. · 1-year post prescribing qualification experience in Specialist ADHD Service. (Specialist ADHD experience can include working within private and/or NHS Secondary mental health practice) or equivalent. · ADHD experience must include managing ADHD patients with prescribing responsibilities, including medication initiation, titration, review, and long-term management. Pharmacists: · Registered Pharmacist with Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification · One year post qualification secondary mental health service experience or further training or One year post prescribing qualification experience in Specialist ADHD service. (Specialist ADHD experience can include working within private and/or NHS practice) or equivalent. · ADHD experience must include managing ADHD patients with prescribing responsibilities, including medication initiation, titration, review, and long-term management. Desirable Qualifications and Experience · Further relevant training or qualifications in mental health or neurodevelopmental conditions. · Previous experience specifically within ADHD specialist services. · Experience in remote clinical service provision or digital healthcare environments. Desirable Knowledge and Skills: · Experience with titration and long-term management of stimulant and non-stimulant ADHD medications. · Understanding of clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement processes related to prescribing. · Comfortable working in a fast-paced, technology-enabled clinical environment. · Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and risk assessment in mental health and remote care settings. · Ability to adapt and contribute to service development in a growing, evolving organisation.
