Community Occupational Therapist - Older Peoples Service

The In-reach and home treatment occupational therapist is a core part of a busy Crisis team who aim to improve health and wellbeing through enabling participation in occupation (the activities, roles and routines of everyday life).

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist with an interest in working with older people. The role offers the opportunity to work in a holistic way to support older people who are experiencing challenges with their mental health.

This role is based within a well-established, multi-disciplinary team. The Occupational Therapist is an essential member of the team. The role will involve managing Occupational Therapy referrals into the team, assessing the occupational needs of older adults with mental health conditions who live within their local community, co-designing and implementing person - centred occupation based interventions to support them to live their best life. This will include working with a variety of partners across the local community to ensure that we provide the right service at the right time by the right person.

You will receive regular clinical and professional supervision from one of the older adult community Occupational Therapy leads and support from the wider OT workforce and leadership team. There are many opportunities for participating in Occupational Therapy specific Continuing Professional Development activities within the trust and older peoples division.


Main duties of the job

As an Occupational Therapist in the team, you will support patients who would benefit from occupational therapy assessment and intervention.

This will include identifying those people who are both newly referred and already supported within the team who may benefit from Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention.

You will play a key role in delivering occupation based holistic, person-centred assessments and therapeutic interventions.

You will embrace the delivery of best practice guidelines for Mental Health and Occupational Therapy.

You will need to be a dynamic clinician with good interpersonal skills to enable engagement of service users and their families or carers.

You will be able to make complex decisions, formulate detailed assessments and person-centred support plans. Working as a Duty Worker is part of this role.

You will offer and support Occupational Therapy student placements.

You will offer supervision to junior staff including Occupational Therapists.

Participation in professional development activities is encouraged. Profession and older adult specific learning, supervision, wider support and training is provided.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Qualified Occupational Therapist
* Current registration with the relevant professional body, eg NMC, HCPC, Social Work England
* Post-graduate training relevant to specialist area
* Student Mentorship qualification or willing to undertake this


Other

* Ability to meet the travel requirements of the post/access to vehicle / drive due to geographical area.
* Ability to work flexibly and under pressure
* Computer Literate
* Comprehensive range of high-level verbal and written communication skills
* Care planning skills
* Knowledge of OT assessments/ tools within Mental Health
