Role
The position of Piping Design Engineer for Hinkley Point C on site aims at supporting the field design activities for the piping discipline. It will lead to handle different interfaces with several disciplines and solve piping engineering topics raised during on-site installation of pipework and associated supports. The Piping Design Engineer will be highly interacting with the operational lead to provide them with technical assessments. They will be in charge of interacting with the different stakeholders to ensure the closure of site queries in compliance with the Hinkley Point C project milestones. The main goal of this role is to support the engineering teams working with CAD applications by performing the following tasks and activities:
Responsibilities
* Gathering input data
* Engaging with various stakeholders (installation contractors, interfaces with other disciplines, etc) to clarify issues
* Producing site request technical assessment (RFI, FCR, NCR) concerning design issues on piping, support and anchorage scopes
* Contributing to other teams (Layout, Transverse, etc) by providing piping assessments or general guidance as required
* Doing hand calculations and running anchorage macros to assess the feasibility of modification
* Proposing appropriate and proportionate modifications if sizing criteria are not met
* Closing open points and comments
* Assessing and integrating modification coming from the stakeholders after packages handed over to the Joint Design Office
* Using calculation notes and guide drawings subcontracted to external companies
* Maintaining Quality Assurance procedures in delivering the design
* Working with CAD designers/detailers in the preparation of the design drawings
* Contributing to the update of site design documentation such as tolerance notes or catalogue of standard solutions
Required criteria
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering
* 3 to 6 years of experience in Piping Mechanical Design in the Nuclear Industry or equivalent
* Knowledge of Eurocode, ASME and RCC-M codes
* Knowledge of piping sequence including detailed design, execution design, manufacturing, installation and commissioning
* Knowledge of AVEVA E3D and Navisworks
* Knowledge of Pipestress, RSTAB, ANSYS, Workbench
* Knowledge of piping and support calculation tools
* Strong coordination and communication skills
* Right to work in the UK
Desirable
* Experience with HPC or other EPR projects
* Ability to meet commitment and deadlines
* Excellent Interpersonal and organisational skills and writing abilities
