UK Athletics (UKA), is the national governing body for the Olympic and Paralympic sport of Athletics. An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Communications Officers to join the Media and Communications Team during one of the most high‑profile seasons in recent history.
Roles Overview
These roles are available either on an employed fixed‑term contract or a consultancy basis, offering flexibility for individuals with relevant experience in communications, media relations, or event operations.
Responsibilities
* Supporting media operations and communications delivery for major events including the Novuna UK Athletics Indoor and Outdoor Championships, the Novuna London Athletics Meet, and the European Athletics Championships Birmingham 2026.
* Assisting with press office activity, including drafting press releases, media statements and briefing materials, and managing day‑to‑day media queries.
* Contributing to planning and delivery of content across UK Athletics digital channels, working with internal teams and agency partners.
* Providing operational and logistical support for accreditation, travel, mixed zone management and event communications.
* Assisting with partner requests, press conferences, and broadcast coordination.
* Supporting post‑event reporting and media evaluation.
Qualifications
* Experience in media, communications, PR, or event operations - ideally within sport or live event environments.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills and confidence liaising with media, partners and event staff.
* Excellent organisational and administrative abilities, with the capacity to thrive under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
* Practical understanding of digital and social media platforms.
* A collaborative approach, attention to detail, and enthusiasm for the sport of athletics and para athletics.
Compensation & Conditions
Employed: £24,000 - £27,000 (pro rata), fixed‑term January 2026 - August 2026, 35 hours per week with flexibility for evening and weekend work.
Consultancy: £28,000 - £32,000 (pro rata equivalent), January 2026 - August 2026, terms to be agreed.
UK travel will be required, along with weekend and event‑based working.
