Job overview
UHNM is looking to recruit a substantive Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics, specialising in soft tissue knee and knee surgery. In conjunction with consultant colleagues the post holder will provide a soft tissue knee service at UHNM responding to local and network referrals. The post holder will also be expected to provide specialist trauma knee work as well as the provision of soft tissue knee elective work.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant should demonstrate that they have had dedicated training in knee surgery. The post holder will take responsibility for the inpatient and outpatient care of trauma and orthopaedic patients which will include caring for knee patients as well as the provision of specialist emergency trauma and elective orthopaedic care to our patients. The successful applicant will be expected to work across both our sites at Royal Stoke and County Hospital and contribute to an on-call rota for general trauma, we are expecting to move into a specialist on call system in the future.
UHNM Trauma Directorate works closely with the prestigious Keele Medical School and there will be an opportunity for the post-holder to contribute to medical student teaching. We also have a vast network of allied health professionals
The post holder will be expected to take an appropriate share in the management and administrative workload of the Department. All Consultants are involved in planning and development of the service.

Person specification
Qualifications
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via • CCT or CESR (CP) – proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview • CESR or • European Community Rights
Clinical Experience & Training
* Experience of post graduate and undergraduate teaching and training at an appropriate level
* Extensive experience in managing Soft tissue knee and knee trauma as part of a major trauma service
* Evidence of completion of approved fellowship training in soft tissue knee subspecialty
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
* ATLS/European Trauma/ or equivalent Trauma Course in last four years
* Experience of working in a major trauma centre
Professional and Multidisciplinary Team Working
* • Experience of postgraduate and undergraduate teaching and training at an appropriate level
Management and Administrative Experience
* Ability to help manage the specialist unit and advise Trauma Directorate and working parties as appropriate
* Experience of other MTCs/equivalent
