Job Description
We are currently looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our Research and Development Function within the Scientific Research and Innovation group. This full‑time permanent role will be based in South Mimms, Hertfordshire.
Key Responsibilities
* Ensure the effective & efficient operation of precision manufacturing equipment, including filling machines and freeze dryers.
* Coordinate and supervise the planned preventative maintenance programme for the specialist plant and equipment.
* Investigate and resolve faults and unscheduled tasks on a priority basis, proposing solutions to keep operations running safely.
* Provide 24/7 out‑of‑hours cover on a rota basis, making decisions and carrying out necessary actions to maintain equipment and product quality.
Qualifications
Experience Criteria:
* Significant experience in a maintenance or building services environment, preferably with containment laboratories.
* Experience supervising contractors, apprentices, temporary staff, and new starters.
* Experience working on a range of mechanical systems and updating associated documentation (risk assessments, SOPs), such as air handling systems, clean rooms, building management systems, autoclaves, pumps, and updating drawings.
* Experience supervising work in compliance with permits, risk assessments and method statements.
* Experience working within a Quality Management System such as GMP/ISO9001.
* Ability to investigate problems, identify solutions and implement changes, calling on external expertise as required.
* Ability to prioritise work to ensure the most critical tasks are dealt with promptly, maintaining safety and functionality.
Technical Criteria:
* Minimum NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in a relevant mechanical subject.
* Practical mechanical engineering skills (controls and PLC knowledge useful but not essential). Ability to set out jobs from drawings and specifications and requisition necessary materials.
* Knowledge of regulations, British statutory standards and safety regulations (COSHH, manual handling, risk assessments and method statements).
* Proficiency with MS Excel and Word.
* Experience with building management alarm and PPM systems is advantageous.
* Excellent written communication skills.
* Good ability to complete comprehensive risk assessments and SOPs.
