Job Advert – Learning Support Assistant (Casual)

Salary: £ £13.65 per hour

Band A points 1-6

Casual Contract (As and when required) - No fixed hours per week; daytime and evenings

We are Thurrock Adult Community College (TACC), the Adult Education provider for Thurrock and are part of Thurrock Council. The role

The college is looking for casual (bank) Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) to support learners individually or in a group. The role of an LSA is to help learners achieve their full potential and provide support with a wide variety of methods to learners with a range of different learning disabilities or difficulties. The role will include, but is not limited to, the following:

* Ensuring correct procedures are followed for any external agencies, awarding bodies or other applicable organisations.
* Assisting with the development of Individual Learning Plans and targeted learning objectives
* Assisting with the planning of learning activities by identifying and preparing resources required to support lesson plans & learning outcomes
* Ensuring that learning aids are provided where allocated, in a timely manner and that such aids are checked regularly, reporting to line manager if found faulty
* Assisting in a range of activities to support learning outcomes using the tutors planned teaching and learning method.
* Providing unobtrusive guidance and support to enable learners to find answers to questions and tasks set, using knowledge of each learner's differing level of development and ability to ensure progression and continuity. Using a facilitator approach with a range of higher order questioning where appropriate.
* Supervising individual or small groups of learners undertaking learner-led activities by co-ordinating and explaining basic instructions for the activity, adjusting activities within the scope of the lesson plan and learning outcomes in response to learners' learning
* Assisting learner achievement by monitoring learning against learning outcomes, informing the teacher of progress/problems
* Supporting learners to develop their independence through undertaking tasks
* Supporting the use of IT as a tool to enable learning
* Assisting as necessary any learner requiring support, either getting to their lesson, during or leaving their lesson
* Taking notes for learners with hearing impairments and where this support is deemed necessary, for learners with other impairments/disabilities
* Supporting individuals with 'Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans' (PEEPS) who require assistance in the event of evacuation from the college

DBS Check: A satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check with Barred List will be required.

You must be available to work daytime and evenings. Hours will be offered in advance, but flexibility is essential.

You will be required to be mobile within the Borough and work at other sites/venues in line with the business needs of the College.
