SEN Teaching Assistant
Prospero Teaching is seeking a patient, reliable, and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils in the Basingstoke area. This long‑term role involves working closely with students who have additional needs, including autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, communication needs, and social or emotional challenges.
You will play an important role in helping pupils access learning, build confidence, and feel supported throughout the school day. This is a highly rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys working with children and wants to make a meaningful difference in their education and development.
This position is ideal for candidates with experience in SEN, care, support roles, youth work, or for graduates looking to gain hands‑on experience in education, psychology, or child‑focused careers.
The Role:
1. Provide 1:1 support and small‑group assistance for pupils with SEND
2. Help pupils engage with lessons and classroom activities
3. Support emotional regulation, confidence, and positive behaviour
4. Assist with routines, transitions, and adapted learning tasks
5. Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and support teams
6. Encourage independence, resilience, and social development
7. Contribute to a calm, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment
Ideal Candidate:
8. Experience working with children or vulnerable individuals
9. Calm, patient, and confident supporting additional needs
10. Strong communication and teamwork skills
11. Able to build positive and trusting relationships
12. Adaptable, reliable, and proactive
13. Passionate about supporting pupils who need extra guidance
14. Psychology, education, or child‑related graduates encouraged to apply
Contract Details:
15. Position: SEN Teaching Assistant
16. Location: Basingstoke
17. Start Date: ASAP
18. Hours: Full‑time, term‑time
19. Pay Rate: £ – £ per hour
20. Contract: Long‑term
Experience, Training & Safeguarding:
21. SEN or child‑support experience desirable
22. Safeguarding training can be provided
23. Understanding of SEN strategies beneficial but not essential
Eligibility:
24. Right to work in the UK
25. Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
26. Two relevant references
