Nurture Group Assistant – Secondary School – Tameside
A caring and inclusive secondary school in Tameside is seeking a compassionate Nurture Group Assistant to join their pastoral team. The role focuses on supporting vulnerable pupils who face social, emotional, or behavioural challenges, providing a safe space where they can develop key skills to succeed in school and beyond.
Responsibilities:
Delivering structured, evidence-based nurture group sessions designed to build pupils’ confidence, social skills, emotional regulation, and resilience
Supporting pupils’ literacy and numeracy development within the nurture group environment
Building positive relationships with pupils, acting as a trusted adult and mentor
Working alongside teaching staff and pastoral leads to identify pupils who would benefit from nurture provision
Assisting with the planning and evaluation of individualised programmes based on pupils’ needs
Encouraging pupils’ engagement with school life and helping them transition back to mainstream lessons where appropriate
Maintaining detailed records of pupil progress and behaviour
Candidate Profile:
Experience in pastoral care, youth work, or education, ideally with vulnerable or disadvantaged young people
Understanding of social and emotional development and related barriers to learning
Calm, empathetic, and patient approach with strong listening skills
Ability to work flexibly and respond sensitively to the needs of individual pupils
Committed to safeguarding and promoting pupils’ welfare
Interest in further professional development in nurture or therapeutic education

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
