Responsibilities
* Perform, analyse, interpret and document routine and complex investigations.
* Oversee the processing of stem and related cells for clinical transplantation.
* Advising scientific colleagues and clinicians on the clinical significance of test results.
* Manage staff within the clinical laboratory service section, including target setting, performance review, staff selection and training.
* Deputise for the Head of Department as required and undertake the duties of the departmental manager in his/her absence.
* Maintain current good practice and meet national and international professional standards (e.g. JACIE, HTA, EU Legislations/Directives) and Health and Safety regulations consistent with NHSBT strategy.
* Provide training to Healthcare Scientist staff and clinicians and act as a mentor.
* Attend SCI multi-centre/national meetings, contribute to the development and implementation of new laboratory procedures and services, and attend meetings on managers’ behalf.
* Lead participants in research and development activities to advance the service forward.
Qualifications
* HCPC registration.
* PhD/MSc in transplantation or equivalent, or significant equivalent experience.
* Professional qualification in transplantation or related field.
* In-depth knowledge of transfusion and transplantation science.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to convey complex concepts to non-clinicians.
