People Business Partner


Honeycomb Houses is a family-run institution born-and-bred from our parent company, Brakspear, which came to life all the way back in 1779. This is an exciting time to join Brakspear and Honeycomb houses as we anticipate new launches and openings. The People Business partner opportunity is a 12-month maternity cover role, however there is an opportunity for it to become permanent as Honeycomb Houses continues to grow. We would be looking for someone to start mid-end of August/ 1st September.


The Role:

You would be supporting the Honeycomb Houses management team continue to deliver on its People strategy of growth, attracting, retaining and developing brilliant people, building a high performing Honeycomb team culture.

The People partner is a trusted partner, providing crucial support to managers and employees, advising on employment law and managing employment relations. Also, driving various recruitment, onboarding, development and engagement processes and projects

You would build strong relationships with the management team, understanding business challenges and providing commercially focused people advice.

Key relationships: training manager, payroll and HR officer, head office management, operations managers and general managers.


Employee Relations:

· Coaching and providing guidance to managers on employment law, HR policies, practices and best practices.

· Provide ER training and development to managers in the business including deputy managers and head chefs when required.

· Advising and guiding managers on cases related to performance, disciplinary actions and grievance. Offering support on letters and holding meetings when required. Ensuring all letters and documentation is saved to file.

· Proactively coaching managers on the performance management process when low performance has been identified.

· Supporting managers with absence management, including sickness, occupational health referrals and family leave.

· Acquisition support- with the senior leadership team, develop and execute plans aligned with organisational objectives, ensuring compliance with TUPE legislation.


People Administration

· Ensure the company handbook and policies are updated related to new employment legislation.

· Ensure employee files are kept up to date.



Recruitment and onboarding:

· With the training manager, ensuring we are compliant with mandatory trainings related to health and safety, food safety and sexual harassment on our system.

· Overall responsibility with the training manager of ensuring that our onboarding is being adhered to. Includes compliance trainings, virtual inductions and workbooks.

· Join GM Monday meetings to discuss outstanding recruitment, compliance and onboarding processes.

· Overall oversight of our recruitment systems, check job postings, number of candidates outstanding, time to hire. Ensuring we are recruiting to our Honeycomb Houses structure.

· Provide recruitment reports and stats for the Monday calls.

· Update job descriptions and job advert templates as required.

· Lead/support Head Office recruitment.

· Work with the Marketing team to create recruitment campaigns to promote the Honeycomb Houses culture.


Training and Development:

· Overall responsibility for Honeycomb Houses training and development plan. Collaborate with the training manager, general managers and operations managers to understand the business needs.

· Provide line management support and guidance to the training manager.

· Drive the bi-monthly talent review calls with the operations manager for each area. Follow up on initiatives and actions required.

· Assist the training manager with planning and delivery of any specific activities.

· Lead the annual appraisal process on our system, provide training and guidance to managers. Ensure all appraisals and PDP’s are complete. Collate all responses for our managers and high performing supervisors and chefs for talent calls and succession planning.

· Promote our Honeycomb Houses career pathway, ensuring all promotions are evidenced via this.


Employee Engagement:

· Drive Honeycomb Houses recognition and communication on the Bee Hive (internal recognition, benefits and communication platform). Take overall accountability for managing the Bee Hive.

· Guide and support employee engagement activities including recognition incentives, benefits and employee events.

· Promote a positive working culture aligned to our company values and ethos.

· Analyse onboarding and exit interview feedback to help shape employee retention and engagement initiatives.




What we are looking for:

· Previous HR experience for a multi- site operation.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills- ability to confidentiality communicate effectively with employees and managers at all levels.

· Ability to multitask, prioritise and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

· Knowledge of employment law- sound understanding of relevant employment legislation, keeping up to date with legislation and ability to lead on the upcoming employment rights bill.

· TUPE knowledge or experience for potential new openings.

· Ability to be able to travel to sites when required, expect this to be monthly.

· Experience in hospitality would be desirable but not essential to understand the day-to-day operations.
