About the role
Our long‑established Plymouth painting team continues to flourish and we are looking to recruit a quantity surveyor. Honesty, integrity, and teamwork will be at the heart of what you do; we seek someone to share in this ethos.
Key responsibilities
* Measure and prepare cost estimates for contracts and tenders, highlighting commercial risks and mitigation.
* Prepare cost value reconciliations for contracts, identifying commercial risks and opportunities to ensure correct contract planning.
* Work closely with the Contracts Manager to ensure productivity labour targets are agreed and issued before contract start, including direct labour incentives where possible.
* Build strong client, supplier, and subcontractor relations to ensure variations and progress of contracts are discussed and mutually, commercially viable solutions are sought.
* Complete and analyze weekly reporting from site, ensuring it has adequate cost information (labour rates, performance expectations, budgets, value, progress, quality, and safety).
What we’re looking for
* Proven experience in a similar surveying role.
* Experience of the commercial ownership of projects and contracts from tender and estimation stages through to final account.
* Experience of working for a painting or refurbishment contractor would be very advantageous.
* Experience of successfully managing commercially works with a total value up to £2 million annually.
* Schedule of Rates (SORs) experience.
* Entrepreneurial spirit, with a keen eye for identifying business opportunities, and areas for negotiation and better gains.
* Strong commercial, analytical, and accurate approach.
