The primary purpose of the Archaeological Geophysicist (Assistant Workshop Supervisor) role is to undertake and supervise geophysical field surveys, ensuring the jobs are conducted to a high standard and completed within the allocated timescales.
This will require driving across the UK and staying away across the week, planning and executing geophysical surveys, liaising with landowners or other external stakeholders as necessary, undertaking day-to-day equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, completing and signing off site documents and paperwork, ensuring collected data is of a high quality, and managing a field assistant.
The geophysical surveys will mainly be comprised of cart-based (hand-pulled or quad-towed) magnetometer surveys, with potential opportunities for combined electromagnetic induction surveys or ground penetrating radar surveys, dependent on skills and progression.
While the role is primarily fieldwork based (c. 75% of time on average), it will include an office rotation on a semi-regular basis. Office weeks will be based in the Technical Operations Department supporting the company’s technical operations and facilities management by working on, associated projects and tasks. Activities may cover a broad range of IT, electronics, facilities, equipment maintenance and development, or other workshop-related tasks.
