About The Role
We are seeking a dynamic and passionate lecturer in Fintech and Business Analytics to inspire the next generation of industry leaders. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of high-quality teaching, curriculum development and research within their specialist field. You will deliver engaging teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, support student learning and development, and contribute to the School's research and enterprise activities. The role offers a supportive environment that encourages professional development, research activity and industry collaboration.

About You
We are seeking an enthusiastic and forward-thinking academic with a strong foundation in Fintech and Business Analytics. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of academic expertise and industry insight, with a passion for delivering high-quality, student-centred learning and contributing to impactful research and enterprise activity. You will hold a good honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, alongside subject-specific expertise. A PhD (or near completion), or equivalent professional achievement, is essential, as well as Fellowship of the HEA or willingness to achieve this. The successful candidate will have experience developing and delivering modules or programmes in Fintech and Business Analytics, strong digital capability with practical application to support student learning, and a track record of collaborating with industry partners to enhance curriculum and student experience.
Responsibilities
* Effectively teach and facilitate learning on a range of subjects/modules within the subject area on undergraduate, postgraduate, professional and post-experience programmes.
* Ensure that knowledge from research informs and enhances learning and teaching, and extend it to external activities such as knowledge transfer.
* Design and deliver modules/programmes that comply with the University’s quality standards and regulations.
* Participate in assessment processes, including setting, marking and moderation of student work, providing constructive feedback in line with quality assurance procedures.
* Contribute to the continuing review and development of module/programme delivery, incorporating innovative study modes and pedagogic practices to engage students and develop the Derby Graduate attributes.
* Take on module leader and/or programme leader responsibilities including marketing, recruitment, delivery and ongoing programme development.
Research / Scholarship
* Engage in individual research and collaborate on projects to influence leading-edge practice and contribute to REF.
* Publish in appropriate quality journals and present at scholarly activities to enhance the University’s reputation.
* Develop and maintain contacts with professional, research and industrial organisations.
* Contribute to writing bids for externally funded research projects.
Other
* Act as a personal tutor, supporting and mentoring students as appropriate.
* Provide pastoral care to students and refer to services as needed.
* Support marketing and student recruitment activities as required.
* Develop external links to support recruitment, secure placements, outreach work, generate income or build relationships for future activities.
* Be responsible for administrative duties in areas such as admissions, timetabling, examinations and assessment of progress and attendance.
* Contribute to cross-College / University working and observe University policies and procedures.
Person specification – Essential Criteria
Qualifications
* Good Honours Degree in relevant subject discipline or equivalent
* Fellowship of the Advanced HE (HEA) or willingness to work towards
* PhD (or submitted and awaiting examination) or equivalent in a relevant subject area, or demonstrated equivalent through publication or professional achievement
* Subject-specific qualifications/knowledge
Experience
Learning / Teaching
* Experience or knowledge of quality assurance and validation of HE modules / programmes
* Experience of developing and delivering Fintech and Business Analytics modules or programmes
* Experience with a range of delivery techniques to inspire and engage students
Research / Scholarship
* Demonstrable experience in developing new knowledge within the discipline
* Experience of research / enterprise activity
* Experience collaborating with industry partners to enhance curriculum or student learning
* Evidence of active publishing or outputs contributing to REF or related strategy
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
* Digital capability and aptitude with tools that aid student learning
* Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly to diverse groups
* Proficiency in using IT to support teaching, learning and research
* Excellent written and oral communication, networking and relationship-building skills
