The Role
Do you have the skills and experience to develop our Environmental Assessment services, working closely with other disciplines to deliver a range of exciting projects across the UK? We are seeking a highly motivated, dynamic, organised and conscientious Discipline Lead who demonstrates a passion and enthusiasm for business development expand and diversify our work across Environmental Impact Assessment and Strategic Environment Assessment. Our Discipline Leads are strategic leaders delivering technical excellence, innovation, best practice, business development, professional development and growth. You will have a key role in influencing and shaping the strategic direction of JBA in leading society's pursuit for resilience to climate change from strategic policy to project delivery.

Your role
You will be at the forefront of diversifying and expanding our Environmental Impact Assessment and Strategic Environmental Assessment services for existing and new clients by identifying and pursuing new sector or client opportunities aligned with our company-wide Service Plan. Many of our projects relate to our success across the flood and coastal sectors, but we have an expanding and diversifying portfolio of projects notably in the regulated water and energy sectors, which we are seeking to grow further. We are also experiencing significant growth in Strategic Environmental Assessment and Sustainability Appraisals. You will be expected to manage and prepare winning tenders and framework submissions.
You will lead on shaping and delivering best practice in delivery and championing technical and professional development through thought leadership, research and innovation and staff development. We hold the ISEP EIA Quality Mark accreditation which you will maintain and develop. Working closely with our existing and new clients you will build strong, collaborative partnerships, taking a leading role in shaping how we work and ensuring our approach is open and forward thinking. You will be sharing knowledge, thought leadership, ideas and insight across JBA and externally and developing research and innovation initiatives.
You will manage complex projects and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions and deliver consent for projects. You will provide company-wide technical leadership and excellence in EIA, SA and SEA, including providing expertise, guidance and review of multi-disciplinary deliverables at all stages of projects, from strategic planning and feasibility, through business cases and consent applications, to supporting post-consent delivery and construction.
The team member we're looking for
We are looking for candidates with a positive and professional attitude, who can demonstrate a proactive and creative approach to problem solving, strategic thinking and a proven track record of delivering EIA, SEA and SA and business development. You will need to have a broad understanding of a wide range of environmental disciplines in addition to technical expertise in Environmental Assessment.
The role will be client facing and confidence in working with clients in relation to project delivery and business development is essential. You must be used to working in a team, have excellent interpersonal skills and be an effective verbal and written communicator.
JBA supports agile working providing greater flexibility with the way that we work. However it is important to us that you attend the office on a regular basis. We are flexible on which office location is the base location for this role and it is expected that the role will involve significant cross office working.
Qualifications
* Undergraduate or postgraduate degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Assessment, Environmental Management, Planning, a related subject, or demonstrable professional experience which allows you to evidence your technical expertise
* Professional accreditation with ISEP, preferably CEnv, or with another relevant professional body e.g. RTPI.
Essential attributes for the role
* A track record in business development, leading and expanding work across new clients and sectors.
* Experience of managing and preparing multidisciplinary tender and framework submissions.
* Excellent understanding of environmental legislation, relevant policy and guidance and emerging trends and changes
* Evidence of strategic thinking to focus innovation, diversification and development of new work streams.
* Track record of project delivery, with strong commercial and programme awareness and confidence in working with clients
* Demonstrable experience of leading EIA, SA and SEA projects in different sectors and client types
* An ability to collaborate within, and influence, a team of multi-disciplinary colleagues, to deliver the objectives of large and complex projects and ensure high-quality solutions are developed.
* Management of discipline teams for growth through strategic visioning, mentoring, coaching and professional development.
Desirable attributes for the role
* Experience of leading assessment for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects / Development Consent Order submissions
* Experience of a wide range of environmental permits and consents e.g. ecological, FRAP, waste etc
* Experience and understanding of environmental assessment, management and monitoring during construction
* Experience of delivering innovation in assessment and design
* Experience of working in regulated water sector, energy sector and coastal and river settings
