Location: Stone, Staffordshire (with some flexibility). Direct message the job poster from Commercial Talent Solutions for details. This role is with a specialist engineering and project delivery business that is expanding its commercial function, supported by a global EPC parent company.
The Opportunity
This role offers the chance to join a specialist engineering and project delivery business at a pivotal stage. With strong recent financial performance and the support of a global EPC parent company, the business is expanding its commercial function and requires an ambitious Senior Quantity Surveyor to take on key responsibility across high-value projects. The environment combines the agility of a specialist contractor with the governance and investment of a Tier 1 group, creating both immediate responsibility and long-term progression opportunities.
The Role
As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will hold overall commercial responsibility for the delivery of complex, high-value projects in the energy, utilities, and infrastructure sectors. You will work closely with project managers and senior leadership to ensure that projects are commercially sound, risks are managed, and financial outcomes are maximised.
Day-to-day responsibilities:
* Managing all pre- and post-contract commercial activities, from tendering and bid support to project close-out.
* Full administration of NEC contracts (Options A, C & E), ensuring compliance and protecting the business’s commercial position.
* Preparing, reviewing, and submitting accurate applications for payment, interim valuations, and final accounts.
* Leading the management of change, including compensation events, early warnings, and contractual correspondence.
* Producing robust CVRs, forecasts, cost reports, and variance analyses to support senior decision-making.
* Working with procurement teams to secure best value from subcontractors and suppliers.
* Providing detailed commercial advice to operational teams and senior management.
* Mentoring and developing junior commercial staff, ensuring consistency of approach across the team.
* Contributing to the wider business strategy, governance improvements, and reporting requirements at senior level.
Requirements
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
* A strong track record of success as a Senior Quantity Surveyor, or as a Quantity Surveyor ready to step up into a more senior role.
* Proven experience of working under NEC contracts (Options A, C & E) in live project environments.
* Previous involvement in energy, utilities, infrastructure, or related civil engineering projects, ideally with multi-£m contract values.
* Strong ability to manage the full project lifecycle commercially, including procurement, valuations, change management, and final accounts.
* Excellent commercial acumen, with the ability to balance cost, risk, and value while maintaining strong client relationships.
* Confidence in producing detailed financial reports, forecasts, and cost plans for internal and external stakeholders.
* Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence at project and senior leadership level.
* A proactive approach, with the ambition to take on increased responsibility and progress into senior management.
* Professional qualifications (e.g. degree in Quantity Surveying or similar) are preferred, with chartership (MRICS) an advantage but not essential.
* Highly competitive salary, benchmarked against leading Tier 1 contractors.
* Generous pension scheme with employer contributions above statutory minimum.
* 25+ days annual leave plus bank holidays, with additional holiday purchase options.
* Private healthcare and life insurance.
* Professional membership support (e.g. RICS fees paid) and access to structured CPD.
* Hybrid and flexible working arrangements where appropriate.
* Long-term career growth in a business with strong financial backing and a rapidly expanding order book.
