Doctoral College Manager
Reporting to the Head of Research and working closely with the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation & Engagement and Associate Deans for Research & Innovation, the Doctoral College Manager plays a pivotal role in supporting the University’s ambition to grow and diversify its research portfolio in line with Strategy 2025 and delivery of the Research Excellence Framework (REF). The post holder leads the Doctoral College in providing strategic, operational, and regulatory oversight of the postgraduate research (PGR) student journey, from admission to award, ensuring compliance with external requirements and alignment with sector best practice.
Leading an established and highly effective team, the Doctoral College Manager is responsible for delivering an outstanding experience for over 800 PGR students from across the globe, creating a vibrant, inclusive, and interdisciplinary research environment through high‑quality training programmes, researcher development activity, events, and initiatives that enhance engagement, progression, and employability. The role is central to continuous improvement in policy, process, and practice, providing strategic reporting across Schools, managing key projects such as the annual Research Festival, and ensuring the Doctoral College remains at the heart of the University’s research culture and future ambitions.
Qualifications
* Relevant degree and significant experience in a similar or related role.
* Proven track record of working within a university research environment or similar.
* Proven track record of creating and delivering highly effective and professional services within a university environment.
* Line management experience.
* Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders and external partners at all levels of seniority.
