The Regional Transport Manager is a key leadership role responsible for shaping, leading, and continuously improving Caledonian’s regional transport operations across the Washington, Hull, and Cleckheaton depots. Reporting to the Head of Operations, you will translate Caledonian’s transport strategy into safe, compliant, and high-performing day-to-day operations, while building a strong and consistent transport culture across the region. You will provide clear direction and hands-on leadership to Depot and Transport Managers, ensuring regulatory excellence, cost control, service reliability, and a strong focus on safety and customer experience. This role is central to driving operational consistency, innovation, and sustainable growth across Caledonian’s transport network. Key Responsibilities Strategic & Regional Leadership Provide clear strategic direction and regional oversight across all depots, ensuring alignment with Caledonian’s operational objectives, values, and service standards. Lead, coach, and develop Depot Managers, building a high-performing leadership team with strong accountability, engagement, and succession capability. Act as a key link between depot operations and the wider Caledonian leadership team, ensuring effective communication, consistency, and collaboration. Operational Excellence & Performance Own regional transport performance, ensuring reliable service delivery, high customer satisfaction, and consistent standards across all depots. Set, monitor, and drive performance against agreed KPIs, including productivity, vehicle utilisation, on-time performance, fuel efficiency, driver hours, and cost control. Conduct regular depot performance reviews, identifying risks, trends, and opportunities, and leading the delivery of targeted improvement plans. Ensure effective budget management across the region, achieving cost efficiency while maintaining safety, service quality, and operational resilience. Compliance, Safety & Risk Management Maintain full regional compliance with all transport legislation and regulatory requirements, including DVSA standards, O-licence undertakings, and the Working Time Directive. Provide strategic oversight of vehicle maintenance, inspection regimes, and compliance documentation to ensure roadworthiness and audit readiness at all times. Champion a proactive, safety-first culture, embedding Caledonian’s Health & Safety standards and driving continuous improvement in risk management and incident prevention. Lead and oversee investigations into operational incidents, ensuring robust root-cause analysis, effective corrective actions, and shared learning across depots. People, Capability & Engagement Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and ongoing development of transport teams to build a skilled, motivated, and future-ready workforce. Promote strong engagement and collaboration between depots, encouraging shared learning, consistency, and best-practice adoption. Provide visible leadership presence across the region, offering guidance, challenge, and support to managers and teams. Continuous Improvement & Future Focus Contribute to the development and delivery of Caledonian’s long-term transport strategy, supporting growth, innovation, and service excellence. Identify and implement improvements through technology, data insight, process optimisation, and innovative transport solutions. Drive operational consistency while supporting depot-level ownership and accountability. Skills, Experience & Qualifications Proven experience in a senior, multi-site transport or operations management role. Strong people-leadership capability, with a track record of developing Depot or Transport Managers. In-depth knowledge of UK transport legislation, compliance, and regulatory frameworks. Highly organised and analytical, with experience driving measurable operational improvement. Confident communicator and influencer, effective across all levels of the organisation. CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) in Road Transport – National and/or International. Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel regularly across the UK.
