Job summary

This is a 6 month post as a LAS ST3 in Renal Medicine designed to equip the successful applicant to gain experience in Renal Medicine and thereby further their career in Renal Medicine.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will be working with a team of Consultants, Specialty Doctors, Trust Doctors, Specialty Trainees, Core Trainees and Foundation Trainees. The responsibility of the LAS ST3 is to provide good clinical care in nephrology, dialysis and transplantation as directed by senior colleagues and clinical circumstances in line with the GMC'sGood Medical Practice.

Job description


Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will join a team of middle grade doctors including specialty trainees specialty doctors and such others as are in post. The fellows main duties will include providing inpatient cover on the renal ward, providing an outpatient service alongside consultants, providing a referral service to other specialties carrying out specific treatments and procedures (once adequately trained) following prevalent unit guidelines. The post holder will be part of a Rota to provide inpatient cover on the renal ward when she/he will be posted on the ward for a month at a time. The nephrology and transplant clinics will be allocated monthly although they will have fixed clinic commitments in dialysis medicine. The middle grade doctors will take turns to provide the referral service. The fellow will also be part of a renal middle grade on- call Rota.

Qualifications


Essential

* MBBS or equivalent
* Eligible for full GMC Registration via the PLAB test or MTI route (AoMRC) or completed all parts (1, 2 & PACES) of the Federation of Royal College of Physicians MRCP (UK) examinations with IELTS (UKVI Academic) requirements of GMC if relevant and EPIC verification of qualifications for international doctors depending on primary medical qualifications.


Desirable

* Awards/distinctions whilst studying for 1st degree
* Academic and extracurricular achievements
* ALS certification


Clinical Experience


Essential

* 3 years continuous post-qualification experience in the relevant specialty meeting the prerequisites of the Medical Training Initiative programme of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges.


Desirable

* Presented evidence of experience to date supported by references
* Senior doctors will have appropriate skills & experience to demonstrate in the chosen specialty minimum equivalent to ST3.

* Proven ability to work as a member of a team is prudent and the ability to organise and prioritise busy workloads effectively and cope under pressure is crucial
* Ability to communicate effectively with patients, senior medical staff and other health professionals is vital
