The roles and our CSSD Teams
At Cabrini Hospital our Central Sterilising Supply Department (CSSD) works with cutting edge sterilisation technology in a fast-paced hospital environment.
Our Central Sterilising Supply Department located at Cabrini Malvern services 19 Operating Theatres, three endoscopy rooms and three Cardiac Catheter Labs, with expansion of 4 new theatres and endoscopy (new processing and procedure rooms) due for completion in early 2026.
Our department has large assembly and storage areas, providing an optimum working environment, where instruments are processed to the highest standard for each procedure.
The Instrument Technicians work across a 24/7 rotating roster, reprocessing reusable medical devices for surgical procedures and typically rotate through all phases of the reprocessing cycle.
We have multiple Leadership roles available to support our Perioperative Services expansion
Technical Support D - Specialist Instrument Technician (grade 5)
Key responsibilities:
7. Support and consultation with the NUM/TSE
8. Undertake work of a more complex nature, rotating through all areas of the department with a high degree of autonomy and accountability
9. Shift supervision
10. Participate in quality activities that reflect AS5369
11. Policy/procedure reviews (as directed by the NUM/TSE)
12. Promoting the implementation of new ideas, and striving for best practice and continuous improvement
13. Role model and resource for the team, contributing to staff development, and planning and conducting in-service education programs
About you
Along with recent proven experience as an Instrument Technician (Technical Support B or C/grade 3) and a commitment to providing a high level of service, you will have the following:
14. MUST have Certificate IV in Sterilising Services
15. MUST have a minimum of 36 months experience post certification
16. Competent in managing people systems/processes
17. Capable of working with a high level of autonomy, prioritising own work within established policies, guidelines and procedures
18. Responsible for work performed with a substantial level of accountability and responsibility
19. Experience of shift supervision and quality assurance activities
20. Administrative skills and problem-solving abilities
21. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
Technical Support E - Instrument Technician Supervisor (grade 6)
Key responsibilities:
22. Work in collaboration with the Nurse Manager to develop a high-level functioning team; prioritising safety, supporting and promoting new ideas, and providing expertise and advice aligned with Cabrini policy/procedure, AS5369 and other relevant standards
23. Deputise for the Nurse Manager when required, in accordance with hospital policy, and state and national standards
24. Undertake work of a more complex nature, with a substantial level of autonomy and accountability
25. Oversee quality assurance activities that reflect AS5369, including audits, validations, policy/procedure review, and completion of staff performance reviews, mandatory learning and competencies
26. Manage a portfolio
27. Leadership, management, process monitoring, development of training plans, and supervision and training of instrument technicians
28. Work allocation, daily man hours and rostering
About you
Along with recent proven experience as an Instrument Technician (Technical Support D/grade 5) and a commitment to providing a high level of service, you will have the following:
29. MUST have Certificate IV in Sterilising Services and Health Supervision
30. MUST have a minimum of 36 months experience post certification
31. Ability to work autonomously, and prioritise your own work and the work of others within established policies, guidelines and procedures
32. Responsible for work performed with a substantial level of accountability and responsibility
33. Responsible for supervising the work of others, including allocation, rostering and guidance
34. Excellent clinical, time management, organisational and communication skills
35. Advanced administrative and communication skills
