Interim Category Manager – MRO (Fleet & Maintenance)
Remote (with travel) | £550–£650 per day | Inside IR35
A leading organisation is seeking an Interim Category Manager to take ownership of its MRO spend, with a strong focus on fleet maintenance, repair, and operational services.
This role sits close to operations and is focused on ensuring assets and fleet are maintained efficiently, safely, and cost-effectively, while improving supplier performance and driving better value from key maintenance and service contracts.
You’ll be working across a broad MRO environment, including fleet servicing, maintenance providers, parts, workshops, and related operational suppliers. This is a hands-on role requiring someone who understands the realities of keeping assets and fleets running day-to-day.
You’ll work closely with operational, engineering, and site teams, with occasional travel to depots, sites, and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage end-to-end procurement across MRO with a strong focus on fleet maintenance and operational services
* Oversee supplier contracts for fleet servicing, repairs, parts, and maintenance providers
* Drive cost efficiency while ensuring service levels and asset uptime are maintained
* Work closely with operational teams, engineers, and fleet managers to support day-to-day requirements
* Improve supplier performance, responsiveness, and service quality
* Develop and refine category approaches for MRO and fleet-related spend
* Identify practical opportunities to reduce downtime, improve value, and streamline maintenance supply chains
* Ensure contracts and supplier arrangements are fit for operational use
Key Requirements
* Proven experience in MRO procurement, ideally with fleet, transport, or asset maintenance exposure
* Strong understanding of maintenance/service environments (fleet, plant, equipment, or similar)
* Experience managing operational suppliers and service-based contracts
* Track record of delivering cost savings and service improvements in MRO settings
* Strong stakeholder management with operational and technical teams
* Hands-on, practical approach with ability to operate in fast-moving environments
