The Systems & Components team delivers a wide variety of tests across multiple industries (automotive, defence, mass transit, aerospace) focusing on the quality and durability of products. The rapidly evolving mobility landscape—electrification and automation—drives the need for innovative solutions to ensure future and existing products meet new user requirements. Our team works closely with customers to develop robust and reliable tests for these changing use cases.
As a Technician within the Systems & Components team you will work with Engineers to develop and deliver tests to provide accurate and reliable solutions across a range of projects, from small upgrades to whole vehicle platform releases. You will create rigs to replicate in-service conditions and measure & report data to customers. Technicians provide technical support over three shifts to enable the laboratory to function effectively, while following procedures and health & safety guidelines.
Responsibilities
* Conduct tests/measurements and produce precise and reliable data.
* Monitor tests and complete comprehensive test logs.
* Install and connect instrumentation and test wiring.
* Operate data acquisition and equipment control systems.
* Design and manufacture of rigs (with engineering support).
* Set up and fault finding of test rigs.
* Follow procedures and carry out safety checks.
* Act in accordance with the behaviours for UTAC staff at all times.
Qualifications
* GCSE and above (HNC preferred).
Experience
Essential
* Have experience in a workshop/laboratory environment.
* Ability to use general hand tools.
Desirable
* Knowledge of sensor types and applications, including accelerometers, thermocouples, force transducers etc.
* Use of programmable/automated test systems.
Skills & Behaviours
* Strong organisational, analytical and excellent attention to detail.
* Ability to find creative solutions to problems.
* Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
* Comfortable using computers, in particular Microsoft Office applications.
Other
* Flexibility to support test activity outside of normal working hours.
* Full UK driving licence & own transport (UTAC Millbrook is not easily accessible via public transport).
* SC clearance or ability to achieve this (UK national with residency in the UK for the last 5 years).
* Willing to undergo a Criminal Disclosure check.
* NOTE: This position will be based on site and run across 3 shifts.
