BBC Radio Nottingham aims to set the agenda for our city and county and we’re looking for a talented, creative journalist to join our brilliant team. We give our audiences everything they need to know about life in Nottinghamshire combined with a big dose of entertainment and fun. We strive to reflect everything that’s great about Notts - from the buzzing city of Nottingham to the world famous Sherwood Forest. We pride ourselves on shining a light on what’s not quite right too – asking tough questions on behalf of our audiences and holding our local and national officials to account on the issues that matter.

You’ll be a journalist working across our audio output from our mid-morning show to content for BBC Sounds. You’ll love working across all our teams to identify content that we can share across our platforms and be full of ideas on how to collaborate with colleagues across the East Midlands and the wider BBC.

Main Responsibilities

We’re looking for a driven and passionate journalist who wants to help us reach new audiences with the content that matters to them. You’ll know who our target audiences are, and understand what they’re looking for both in digital and linear output. You will be full of creative ideas on how to engage those audiences in new and innovative ways. You’ll know how to turn content around to a tight deadline but be equally comfortable taking on a long term, long-form commission too. We’re looking for a journalist who enjoys working in a busy news environment, who can collaborate across multiple teams and feel at home with breaking news, human-interest stories and organising hold to account Hot Seat segments. You’ll also have an ability to produce a steady stream of your own original ideas.

Are you the right candidate?

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate creativity in producing audio content and have experience of producing output that can be tailored for publication in a variety of ways. You will also be able to forward plan and contribute to a strategy to maintain BBC Radio Nottingham as the number one station in its marketplace.

You will have an excellent knowledge of what works on social media across all platforms and how to use it to drive audiences to our brand. Confidence in using the BBC ViLOR broadcast desk; Open Media and dira! playout and editing software is desirable.

About the BBC

We don’t focus simply on what we do – we also care about how we do it. Our values and the way we behave are important to us. Please make sure you’ve read about our values and behaviourshere .

Diversity matters at the BBC. We have a working environment where we value and respect every individual's unique contribution, enabling all of our employees to thrive and achieve their full potential.

We want to attract the broadest range of talented people to be part of the BBC – whether that’s to contribute to our programming or our wide range of non-production roles. The more diverse our workforce, the better able we are to respond to and reflect our audiences in all their diversity.

We are committed to equality of opportunity and welcome applications from individuals, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socio-economic background, religion and/or belief. We will consider flexible working requests for all roles, unless operational requirements prevent otherwise.
