Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Forfar, is currently looking to recruit a Quantity Surveyors for initial 6 month contracts on a rate of £300-£350/day (Inside IR35). Hybrid working, working predominantly from home, with a notional 80/20 split of time between home/work. Site visits from home will be required.
You will be employed within the Assets team but will be working predominantly with the Housing Assets team. You will work closely with the Contract Administrator and other stakeholders throughout including attendance and reporting to key project meetings.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Team Leader – Housing Projects to provide a professional quantity surveying service including early stage cost studies, cost planning, tender documentation, evaluation, reporting and acceptance of tenders and post contract duties.
- Co-ordinate and lead a team of professional and technical quantity surveying staff on a project basis. Controlling and monitoring the staff and professional work allocated to the project team and financial and resource management of the team.
- Support the Team Leader – Housing Projects to ensure that high standards of professional services are met and contribute towards the Departmental objective of delivering an efficient, effective and quality service.
- Advise on, and carry out, whole life and value for money cost exercises.
- Advise on and administer / manage contractual claims.
- Provide specialist role in dispute resolution procedures and insolvency issues.
- Actively participate in and contribute to a multi-disciplinary design team process including taking lead role as appropriate.
- Contribute to the management of the Team as a whole and support the Team Leader – Housing Projects.
- Assist the Team Leader – Housing Projects in the formulation, review, implementation and monitoring of policies and strategies on QS matters and ensure these complement and contribute to the department’s corporate objectives.
- Represent the Housing Projects Team in meetings, as required.
- Support, research and advise on design, specification and IT initiatives.
- Contribute to new and improved methods to increase the efficiency of the Team.
- Maintain and increase expertise and knowledge with mandatory continuous professional development. Keep abreast of current legislation. Help to improve the quality of service to individual clients and to the organisation as a whole.
- Will be required to undertake other duties as required.
Essential Skills:
- Chartered Quantity Surveyor holding membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS)
- Willingness to undertake mandatory information governance training
- Knowledge and experience of the full range of quantity surveying practice
- Knowledge of contractual claims
- Experience of Microsoft Office packages
- Knowledge and experience of production of tender documentation using computerised billing
- Experience of estimating the cost of building projects
- Experience of contract financial management and carrying out interim and final valuations including site measurements
- Good oral communication skills
- Good written communication skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
