Job summary

An outstanding individual is sought to fulfil the role of Training Programme Director for Gastro-enterology for KSS.

This is a 1PA Training Programme Director vacancy.

The role of Training Programme Director is to work with and support the Head of School in leading the delivery of a wide range of functions, aligned to the NHSEngland mandate.

The Training Programme Director is professionally and managerial accountable to the Head of School. The role focuses on improving learner supervision, assessment, and experience, engaging faculty, and ensuring effective educational outcomes. The role is evolving to include workforce transformation and developing multi-professional links.

To support the Postgraduate Dean, Training Programme Directors work across health and social care sectors within a team, reflecting changing service models to deliver an integrated workforce from diverse professional backgrounds.


Main duties of the job

The Programme Director will ensure compliance with national standards and local guidelines. Responsibilities include:

* Overseeing the Gastro-enterology Regional Training Programme
* Addressing specialty-specific matters and trainee/trainer concerns
* Recruitment to training posts and programmes
* Managing postgraduate programmes, including assessments, progression, rotations, support, remediation, OOP management, career support, less than full-time training, inter-deanery transfer, and academic training

The ideal candidate will be an experienced NHS Consultant with a thorough understanding of Gastro-enterology training across the region, possessing strong leadership and communication skills, and able to work effectively within a multi-professional team.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.

Successful candidates will undergo an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) in the Electronic Staff Record system (ESR), which gathers information from previous or current NHS employers to support onboarding. You may decline participation at any stage.

The initial appointment is for 1 year, with the possibility of extension subject to mutual agreement.

Secondments

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Fellowship of College / Faculty, professional association, or body
* Participation in courses supporting educational development
* Qualifications such as PG Cert, diploma, or Master of Medical Education

Employment/Experience

* Experience working with learners or doctors in training
* Leadership in clinical and educational settings
* Track record of service and educational delivery
* Knowledge of relevant colleges, professional bodies, and NHS organizations
* Understanding of workforce transformation
* Experience in recruitment, selection, and E&D within the last 3 years
* Active involvement in appraisal processes
* Knowledge of NHS structures and workforce issues
* For doctors, a valid license to practice
* Previous healthcare education leadership roles
* Understanding of funding streams and current health policies

Depending on experience, remuneration will be in line with TPD sessional payments.
