Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

The closing date is 09 June 2026.

The CAMHS directorate in North Yorkshire and York locality of TEWV consists of the two York Community CAMHS teams based at Orca House, the Selby team based at Worsley Court, the Harrogate Team based at Hummingbird House, the Scarborough Team based at Lake House and the Northallerton Team based at North Moor House with a peripheral clinic in Colburn, the Eating Disorder team and the CAMHS crisis team both based across the whole locality.

This post will provide input into the Harrogate part of the North Yorkshire and York service.

It has a Single Point of Access service staffed by an experienced team who triage and provide telephone consultation services to families and referrers. The SPA responds to all referrals and helps young people and their families to navigate through the options to find a service that meets their needs. The service works with a model of brief intervention to empower young people and their families in achieving good mental health and well‑being. Staff job plans are designed to deliver services described in the TEWV Clinical Pathways, to provide high quality evidence‑based care.

The post arises from a consultant moving to another post within the service. Prior to recruiting to this post there had been a substantive consultant in post.

The team is based at Hummingbird House in Harrogate. The team serves the Harrogate area including Ripon, Masham, Pateley Bridge and includes a GP practice in Wetherby.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will, together with consultant colleagues, see all presentations requiring the input of a psychiatrist arising from secondary schools and their feeder primary schools within the Harrogate sector. The consultant would expect to hold a caseload of around 60 and be asked to see approximately one new assessment per week. The service supports a model whereby all cases are co‑worked with other members of the MDT, key worker role usually held by a non‑psychiatrist, except where there is a formal mutual agreement that sole consultant input is required with other MDT members.

The Consultant joining the team will be expected to work in accordance with GMC guidance for working in multi‑agency and multidisciplinary teams. The Consultant will be expected to work flexibly.

The post will follow a 4 PA (Direct Clinical Care) and 2 PA (Supporting Professional Activities) job plan. This will allow the post holder to develop protected time each week to pursue additional interests such as medical education or leadership opportunities.
