The post holder will be an identifiable senior member of the team who supports duties as a coordinator and team leader, with excellent clinical knowledge and professional behaviour with the ability to deliver care to our high standards. The post holder will lead, support and manage specific projects and audits creating action plans and excellent communication to our team.
You will work closely with the ward manager to support Care Accreditation and CQC recommendations, understand the Trust vision and strategy. Promote and maintain patient safety at all times, including proactively implementing falls prevention. Lead role in the detection, management and prevention of safeguarding issues and have an awareness of current professional and clinical developments within their area of practice and promote this to others.
Leadership and management: Manage the day to day staffing arrangements and rotas, to ensure safe levels of practice, be a shift coordinator on a regular basis where appropriate. Ensure staff adhere to Trust protocols of care, e.g Infection Control.
Main duties of the job
To lead the team, organise the patients care Report to any issues and risks to our patients and staff in appropriate waysEnsure that all local and trust wide polices and procedure are followedlead a multi-disciplinary team approach in the rehabilitation of patients with neurological disorders.Lead in training of other all team membersControl and co-ordinate activities of the ward team in the absence of Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.
Maintain and support high standards of nursing care and review these standards with the Ward Manager.Assist all staff to understand their role in the unit team.
Be aware of the economic use of ward equipment and stores.Undertake Audits to support IPC, CDS and medications managements Ensure adequate security, administration, proper use and recording of dangerous drugs in accordance with hospital policy.Ensure teams collective knowledge of new equipment being used.Furthering own professional development and that of others by ensuring that own clinical and professional knowledge is widened and enriched by attending study days and seminars as arranged through the in-service training officers.Ensure confidentiality at all times. The post holder's attention is drawn to the Data Protection Act 1984.Support ward manager in all duties to support and promote excellent patient care, patient flow and experience.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* 1st level Registered Nurse (Adult)
* Relevant degree or working towards /equivalent experience.
* Holds or working towards recognised teaching/mentorship qualification.
* Qualification in this specialty
Knowledge & Experience
* Significant relevant clinical experience at Band 5 (or above).
* Relevant teaching qualification/skills.
* Evidence of ability to act as a preceptor/mentor to new staff.
* Awareness of Health Policies and the changing NHS environment.
* Able to support staff in acquisition of essential and expanded clinical skills e.g. Cannulation & venepuncture
* Evidence of involvement in producing teaching strategies/packages.
