This position deputises for the Head of Legal Services, providing leadership, line management, and professional in‑house legal advice across a spectrum of medico‑legal issues, including inquests, clinical negligence, and liability claims.
Responsibilities
* Deputise for the Head of Legal Services in all matters, including line management, leadership and support.
* Provide professional in‑house legal advice and services, particularly in medico‑legal issues and inquests.
* Undertake factual investigations of clinical negligence, public and employer liability claims against the Trust in accordance with Trust policy and NHS Resolution requirements.
* Liaise with the HM Coroner, providing appropriate legal representation of the Trust and its staff in the Coroner’s Court.
* Contribute to the Trust’s Risk Management and Clinical Governance processes.
* Provide relevant training for Trust staff.
* Establish effective working relationships with senior managers, staff across the Trust and with external organisations such as NHS Resolution, HM Coroner, external legal advisors and other legal firms.
Qualifications
* Relevant post‑qualification experience as a Solicitor/Barrister/Legal Executive or equivalent.
* Experience working within a legal team.
* Experience handling inquests in the Coroner’s Court.
* Experience managing clinical negligence claims.
* Advocacy experience in a variety of settings.
* Teaching/training experience.
