Communications and Events Officer Grade 6 (£31,637 - £37,174) Full time, Permanent Abertay University is seeking a Communications and Events Officer to join the Communications, Events and Engagement team within our Strategy, Governance and External Relations (SGER) department. An experienced communications professional with a track record of working in a fast-paced corporate communications environment, you will bring a highly organised and professional approach to this key role, taking the lead on internal communications activity and supporting a broad range of other duties. Working with the Communications and Public Affairs Manager, you will plan, deliver and evaluate integrated communications, events and engagement campaigns for staff, students, alumni and external stakeholder groups. Strong digital content creation skills will be essential to the role as you create, edit and publish engaging written copy and smartphone-quality video and pictures for our newsletters, intranet, website, social media and email channels. A solid knowledge of the higher education landscape in Scotland is essential and direct experience of working in HE communications will be advantageous. With a willingness to take on all tasks that come your way, you'll be as comfortable advising members of our Senior Management Team on strategic projects as you will interviewing students about their successes, liaising with journalists, or publicising our latest advances in research, knowledge exchange and innovation. Although communications work will be the principle focus, you will also take a lead on organising and delivering some staff, student and external events, working alongside our small Events team. In return for bringing your skills to the team, you'll be joining a hard-working, friendly and driven department, focused on providing a comprehensive communications and events service and enhancing and protecting the Abertay University brand. Key Responsibilities Plan, create, and deliver communications campaigns and events from concept to completion. Advise senior academic and professional services colleagues on best practice in communications and event management. Represent the team on internal committees and projects, ensuring smooth coordination of activities. Lead on maintaining the intranet and engaging with intranet champions for each Department. Write engaging content for internal channels, social media, press releases, website updates, and speeches. Create and edit visual content, including photos and videos for digital platforms. Deputise for the Communications Manager and Events Lead when required. Maintain databases, manage project systems, and ensure accurate data handling. Develop internal communication strategies to boost staff/student engagement and streamline messaging. Support student ambassador coordination for student-generated content. Monitor and report on social media, website and intranet analytics Handle media enquiries and build strong relationships with journalists and media contacts.
